I was given a 6 cyl today, I'm not able to find any real good pictures to i.d. it. It's not a 216 or a 235. It's a newer vintage than those. I'm guessing its a 250 or 292, I dunno. It has 6 bolts on the valve cover and 2 seperate side plates, thats about all I remember. I havent went to get it yet, so I'm working from memory. As soon as I get it home I will have a better idea but, i'm a little curious not knowing for sure.
If the fuel pump is forward of the motor mount its a 194-230-250, if the fuel pump is aft of the motor mount its a 292. If the side covers are 4" tall its a 194-230-250, if they are 6" tall its a 292.
Is a 250 any good for a hotrod?? I don't know much about them. I do remember it had a TH 350 bolted on it.
There are lots of guys that build them up for their hot rods. Do some searches and you'll find some cool stuff. This will get you started: www.inliners.org www.cliffordperformance.net www.stoveboltengineco.com www.t6racing.org
There should be a pad near the distributor with a number on it, if you're concerned with exactly where it came from. TH350 is definately late six, they don't fit on a 235.
The 250 Chevy Six is a great little engine. Plenty of speed and dress-up stuff available, post-74s are electronic GM bulletproof ignition too.
