They might be worth more than that to someone else, that's why auctions work. ???? I doubt that too many of us printed that response. Hope you get a shot at owning them, they look like they might be in pretty decent condition.
Really? If I find something worth $1,000,000 and the seller is asking $100 for it but I only wanna pay $50 for it then it's only worth $50? Maybe it's a regional saying or something, but it sure comes off as deserving a reply of, "Gee, thanks for the help, BUDDY!"
If something it "worth" $1,000,000 but no one is willing to pay that, how the **** is it worth $1,000,000 ? Anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay.
Who says nobody else is willing to pay more for something? In general, things tend to have a value. If you buy something with more value (worth) more than you paid, then you got ... A BARGAIN! Guess what? You can resell a bargain and make a profit. I don't know how appraisers, Kelley Blue Book, etc. stay in business when all they need to do is say, "It's only worth what you're willing to pay for it, not a penny more."
If YOU are the ONLY GUY who knows about it, then YOU are the MARKET. In that case, it is worth what you are willing to pay for it. As soon as other people know about it, the price changes according to the market's demand.
Looks like just some rusty old junk to me. prolly not worth much. I'll take it off your hands I know a good car crusher.
BIG NEWS!!! After "softly" inquiring for more details from my buddy, he responds with "do you want more pictures of the 'other' cars in the barn'? He called them "model A's" and says there are a few of them! The sheetmetal for the convertible is hanging on the wall "still ***embled" so it should be easily identifiable at that point? Keep your eyes out for new photo postings.
I can't believe all the Barn finds popping up lately. Mega gold hiding away for years. Like finding a sunken treasure ship.. lol
To belabor the point ... You say he's the only one that knows about these cars? He's asking (potentially) the entire HAMB viewing audience. So, the answer is no, he's not the only one. And, do you think the owner might have prices in mind? Is the owner not part of the equation? The market includes all potential buyers. In other words, the owner knows there are other people in the world. For ****'s sake, he's asking what people think the cars might be worth (as he's asking for identifications) so he can consider buying them. Why don't you tell someone that saying next time you're asked what the price is on something you're trying to sell at a swap meet? "Well sir, the price is whatever you're willing to pay for it, not a penny more. You're a one-man market. I can't put a value on it, only you the buyer can. I can't see the hundreds (or thousands) of other potential buyers walking around, so you just lay whatever amount of money down and take it because that's how deals work."
you just let me know if you need to get any of those junk "model A's" out of your way and i will come help. what part of texas are you in?
While you are counting all of your cash and/or finding any extra cash, you might want to put together a story on how you found out about the cars; I'm sure the guy that owns them would be interested.
I don't know how anyone can look at that picture and not already know that yes, those cars are worth buying, without even having to ask. It's just a matter of what the asking price is. But just based on that one picture I could see dropping a pretty hefty chunk of change if that's what it took, that ragtop no matter what it is may as well about be made of solid gold. We may know about them, but without knowing where to find them and who to contact, we may as well not know about them for all the good it does. But I have tons and tons of **** here that most people must think is worthless, because I can't even get them to make a stupid offer on it, let alone one I'd actually entertain. Which has me thinking about just loading it all up and taking it to the s****yard - I know he'll give me something for it, which is more than most people have offered. And yes, a lot of times at the swap meets I'll ask someone what they want to give me for some old piece of **** - and if I like the number, I sell.
I am going with a cad/lasalle but with a little junk moved around a posiitive ID can be had. I know where many cars like this are but not for sale at any price so if these are on the market I imagine they have some buyers out there.
Well, here's my problem with the "what you are willing to pay for it" answer. I might be able to pay $10,000 if it's worth that much, but if the going rate for something is $5,000 on average then I don't want to pay $10,000 and wouldn't be "willing" to oververpay, but if it's worth $10,000, and I had $10,000 I'd be "willing" to pay that. Now when you are competing with others, then the "what you are willing to pay" answer makes a bit more sense, but if it's sitting in a garage and nobody else will be making offer's then the "what is it worth" question isn't really helped by a "what you are willing to pay" answer. Just my 2 pennies.
UPDATED PHOTOS: See attached. The other 2 cars in the barn are a 28/29 model a tudor sedan in unrestored, original condition. The other is a fully restored, but hasn't seen the road in 5 years model a show winner (which tells a bunch). The reason they are not pictured is because there is "evidence" that might tell where "my" barn is at... untrusting huh? YOU BARN FINDERS KNOW WHAT I'M TALKIN' 'BOUT! Now, as far as the meaning about any item's "worth"... I gradeated frum bizunes skul and mie intinshuns wer to aks wat thu fare markit valiew wuz ohn sutch a rair idem az dat wudu ben da correk weigh to aks. SO, BASED ON WHAT A ****IN' '35/'36 2-door coupe and '35/'36 convertible would be worth if they were expose to an open market, a fair market value could be somewhat determined. Thanks for all the input so far, but this is about the input on "my barn" not a economics 101 discussion. Though, i love to debate those!
You're crazy for posting pictures of that stuff on here BEFORE you buy it. Someone will recognize the stuff and screw up the deal. Seems unlikely but I've seen it happen. Buy it then show off the pictures if you're actually interested and the stuff is for sale.
I hate you and your barn find. Damn you. Nah, congrats! Im just jealous as hell....... Looks like an early 1900's brick building.... James
If it's like, a Plymouth or Chevy, maybe $10,000 for the convert, if it's the right Cadillac, potentially half a million. You really need to ID what they are if you're going to get an idea what they're worth.
Hey the secret is to find an old barn somewhere n put your stuff in it and reveal it here on the HAMB bet it sells then
So back to regularly scheduled program. Did you buy the cars or just post them up to make people drewl????
