I thought I would update everyone on the Barn Find 48 Ford coupe that I picked up earlier this summer. I drove it for the first time yesterday and put about 100 miles on it. It was the first time it had seen the road under its own power since 1968. Thanks to all who helped with answering questions. This site provides a lot of help and inspiration to get these old cars back on the road where they belong. Here are some picture of the car. I was lucky enought to get pics of the car when the owner bought it new. A picture of the way it looked when I found it and others of the finished car yesterday.
She's lookin' real nice. Looks like you did a pretty good job of breathing some life back into the original paint too.
Neat car! Don't forget (in case you didnt already know) to lubricate the fan hub ***y. I can't tell you how many people forget to add gear oil to the little hub and then it runs dry. Nasty things happen then! Enjoy the car............. Mac VP www.flatheadv8.com
Meguiars Fine Cut Cleaner and then Number 7 Show Car Glaze. I learned the hard way to NEVER WAX a 60 year old laquer paint job!
I went throught it Completly as far as mechanical. New Brakes . New Cutch and Pressure Plate. New Fuel tank and lines. New Tires. The Flathead was locked up so it got a Chevy 350 stuffed into it. It still retains the Original 3 speed transmission and Banjo rear. I drained and flushed all the lubes. It has a new Aluminum radiator in it as well. I wanted to retain the stock appearance with a little bit of 50's style hot rod to it. It has 1950 Mercury wheels and hubcaps on it with ribbed beauty rings. I thought it turned out great. I hope everyone else enjoys it too. Thanks for the comments
Great car! Love the photo with the caption written with a fountain pen. Only lawyers know what those are anymore.
That there is Darrel, he is a growing boy...dam near grown out of his shirt and britches. Cant afford store bought clothes now that he's got his first car!
I would love to put the wide whites back on it eventually. For the price of one new WWW, I got all 4 blackwall tires, so I'll drive it like Darrel did for a few years until I can afford new ones.
Never It was parked in '68 The guy really loved his car, too. He took very good care of it. I was very fortunate to find it
The car has bee a local car since it was new. It came with the original keys on a leather Ford key ring from a dealer in Sleepy Eye, MN and also another original set with the little metal tag on it to remove and record the numbers for a duplicate set. I found it in a garage South of Minneapols about 20 miles.
