Okay, here's the requested intro: My name is Drew Hierwarter and I bought my very first issue of Rod & Custom in 1961 and have been buying and reading it and dozens of other car mags ever since. In the '70s I went through an assortment of '57 Chevies and in the '80s and '90s I mostly did motorsports photography covering the NASCAR circuit for several magazines and worked in and around the Southern California short track racing scene. I'm now building my first hot rod but I get the impression that many of you on here would hate it because it's a fiberglass bodied kit car. Too bad. Even though the only "real" parts on it are the 8ba block and crank, it looks like a hot rod, will sound like a hot rod, and that makes it a hot rod to me. (If it looks like a duck . . .etc.) If any of you care, there are photos of the progress so far at: http://public.fotki.com/2002p51/our_hot_rod/ Thanks to those who responded to my question about the Coker tires. While I have no intention of running this thing past 60 or 70 it was interesting to know that the tires will hold up past 100. (although, why anyone would go that fast on tires like these is way beyond my comprehension) Drew
looks like one stop shopping , tell us about the parts, rear end, axle, and frame brakes, you know the details, hell yeah
looks like one stop shopping , tell us about the parts, rear end, axle, and frame brakes, you know the details, hell yeah The rear end is a Ford 9" with Strange axles and a Strange center section. Frame is scratchbuilt 2x3 square tubing. Brakes are Wilwood discs in the front and '40 Ford repros in the back. Engine is the aforementioned 8BA, bored .030 over with an Isky cam, Edelbrock heads, Offy manifold with 3 Holley 94s and Sanderson headers. Drew
Welcome aboard!! If you like your car that's all that matters. Looks like one of Stuart and Keith's cars. I didn't read your other post but I've run a set of Firestones from Coker up over a 100. Not for a long period of time though. I've run them at 80 for long stints with no problems. Clark
Nice looking Duck! great photo journal. It looks like one of the nicest 1 800 cars I've seen (and I'm serious other than jealousy I have no problem with that!) first R&C in 61? I was still in Guam then must make you early 50ish I missed your Coker Question, But I'm lucky to be here and tell you "one of the stupidest things in my life was 140MPH on recaps in a Tri-Powered 428 Cobrajet motored 65 T-bird convertible! but I couldn't let that Ram-aired Roadrunner top end me" but that was the old me and now I'm just OLD!! welcome and enjoy the board, we have alot of fun here, quite often at someone else's expense. But if you live thru the first few posts you've got it made
Welcome ! Were not all steel fanatics. I'm sure if all had a choice, we'd prefer to use a steel bodied whatever. Welcome to the hamb!
