Does anybody rent a garage that is away from your home ? I don't car if it is a place that your car club rents or you rent by yourself, lets see them.... I would love to have a cool old building somewhere to do car stuff/hangout with fellow rodders.
The Iron Lords' Shop. Sometimes it's clean other times it's not. This is a shot from the upstairs hangout that overlooks the shop.
Rented a storage garage while remodeling the ba*****t. Was told it's a 10 x 20 ft, first month is free. Did not read the clause that you must give one month notice prior to vacating space, so ended up paying that at the end. The actual measurement inside was only 19 ft 6 inches so I had to put the front bumper against the wall (with cardboard pad) and pull the garage door out when I closed the door. Read the lease very well before signing! Know who will have access to your car and stuff!
I have a building that I use in NE-PA. There are nine cars in it now and it's only half full. I mostly use it for storage but do some work in there. I wish I could find some HAMBers interested in pooling resources and helping out with the expenses.
Looking for the same thing in Bothell, WA. Would be interested in sharing space and expenses with someone
Myself and 3 other guys rented a shop in an industrial area in Santa Maria, Ca. before I moved back east. They still have a shop but it's alot bigger then what we had before. That's the only way to go if you can do it. I'll dig around for some pictures of our shop and scan them for you.
Check this out.....Kind of small but the price is right. Too bad it is not near me. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/off/1366657656.html
thats what i'm looking for.............but down here it's a pipe dream. i've also been looking for others to share a spot with. problem is after i've met some of them i wouldn't want to leave my equipment un locked with them......plus the prices down here are out of hand. this is what i have to deal with: http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/prk/1388723997.html that's more then my house......
Well I don't suppose you guys could help me out over hear in Dubai. Man what I wouldn't d for something like that.
Here's what we've got avaliable. More of a car storage and hang out facility but my dad just added a work room so he can work on cars for himself and customers.
good space like that is around 3-5gs a month , although commercial real estate is depressed , it ain't that depressed
My buddy and I have had this place since early 2002. It is in a really bad part of town but so far we have had very little trouble. And, 800 sq ft for $400 a month makes it all worth while. we also have a 2 car unit in the same complex where we keep that Corvair as well as most of the big stuff; engine hoist, blast cabinet, engine stands and such. Total out lay is $600 a month for both divided by 2. It has become a great place to go and play with cars.
I don't trust a club garage-type setting, or any other kind of "let's all pitch in for garage space" situation. **** grows legs, goes MIA, or just plain gets swiped!
I rented my first couple of shops, the first close to my childhood home and it worked out very well, kept me from freezing my 16 year old *** off! Allowed me to work instead of dreaming of it. My '70 GTO was built between the rental and the great outdoors. My 2nd shop was of the "Club" variety and was very good, initially, before one of the club members and/or evil friends found themselves making deals with the Devil and thier souls and yep, you guessed it! When my stuff came up missing I was out! Worse yet, we knew who it was but the "Club" decided it would be wrong to embarr*** that person! F%#K that noise! No apolgy to this day as adults either. Oh well, life lessons. On the happy end of the story, I went to my folks and asked to build a shop on the back of thier property and was granted permission and was able to get a loan at the tender age of 18 and my dad and I and my cousin Ted built a 24 x 24 shop, used it for twenty years untill I could afford my own, again. The club shop was great, back in the seventies we paid rent of $50 a month and phone and electric bill divided by 5, which was cheap even then! But, no place like home, no place like home...............
I rent a garage in Bed-Sty Brooklyn, NY. Only a 4 block walk away, but it is so small, it fits my car like a condom! Trying to do any work in there is a joke, but I make it work. I am always looking for a larger space/ shared space, but it is at such a premium, and I am poor.
I agree.......I would love to have a place like that to go hang out. We are trying to get a club up and running (although it is taking forever), and it would be too cool to have a place like that even though I don't think it is going to happen.
I rented or let my son inlaw use my shop ,his rent or fee was to keep it clean .For this he got a 1600 sq ft shop with all equipment torches welder plasma cuter etc. Oh ya, also electric ! For this i got in return ,sanding dust every were , papers over the floor ,tools all over ,and no supplys left . Every time i would go to my shop to work on my cars i would spend sat and sun cleaning . So i evicted him . Now my shop is clean tools put way ,and sat and sun i can work on cars. No more renters !
I used to rent a space with my buddy, $200 a month utilities included. We had air to run the tools and access to a lift. There was no heat, but that didn't really matter. The owner was selling the building and someone realized there was and never had been a water meter (he had been getting water for free for years), they made a big fuss downtown, and the water got cut off. It got to the point that I kept a five gallon bucket of water with a lid on it in my truck so we could flush the toilet when it mattered. I really miss that place. After that, I moved into a three car garage off the back of a three family building. I also had the workshop in the ba*****t of the building. All I had to do was mow the lawn once a week, rake the leaves in the fall, and shovel the walks in the winter. I built up a pretty big collection of **** in that place. The building got forclosed, and I am in the process of getting everything out before the bank takes it. It is now all going into my 2.5 car garage at home. The wife is not too happy about losing her parking space. One day, I'll have the funds to build my Garage Mahal.
We have a space where we keep one of our cars in the winter, and also have the original motor out of our 66 Pontiac there, sorry no pics, but it runs us seventy five a month, a friend of ours recently rented one in the same place and pays 60 a month WTF? Carrie
