Hey guys, So I found a company that makes 2" wide lowering blocks for the car that fits perfect with no mods. My question is most of the falcons ive seen on here only used 2" drop blocks. Why is that? why isn't anyone going to 3" drop in the back? I like my cars low but dont want to mess anything up also. If anyone has any idea why please let me know. Also if you have a picture of a falcon on 3" blocks please post them so I can compair. Thanks so much
It depends on what wheel size you're running. If it's a sixer with stock 13" wheels, any more than 2" and your shock plate will be s****in'. Gotta watch that scrubline. It's also possible you may have some driveshaft tunnel interference, but if you want to go low, it would be worth the work to raise it. I still say the way to go is reverse eye springs. You can do 'em yourself for cheap, and no wheel hop.
Yeah but the thing is I dont have any welding or metal working skills so id have to pay to get it done. Whats the reverse eye spring? any pics? what do you do? Whats wheel hop? Sorry for all the questions Im new to lowering older cars.
put the 2inch blocks in, remove 1 leaf spring per side (2nd or 3rd after main leaf), lower the upper control arm 1" (aka shelby drop), cut 1 coil out of the front.. call it good. it will be low enuff.. if not then get some low profile 13" tires, (stock is 155/80/13s or so, go with 155/60/13s or there abouts)... any lower then you'll have more problems then its worth.
i got three on mine and have 13in wheels. never had my plates s****e. driveshaft hits a lil but with air shocks it don't hit unless loaded. i don't have them aired up all the way so it's still a lil low. Just can't have any fat chicks when you go 3in!!!!! looks good with a three inch drop tho!!!
here you go! The guy emailed me today stating they had 2" wide blocks and you can choose between 1,2 and 3 inch drop. They better give me a hook up! lol http://www.cl***icperform.com/Store/...ars/CP2031.htm
what is this shelby drop? I am new to the 60's ford thing.. does it handle better as well as sit lower?
ok so I checked out the set up and the template kits are for 1964-1966 or 1967-1970. did you use or make your own one inch template?
I made my own template and it worked out good on my 64 coupe. One thing that I would advise but not 100% sure about on the earlier falcons, is if you dont have a bar fitted under the engine between the spring towers you should consider installing one. I expect a bar from the 64 style cars will bolt in. Somebody else out there maybe able to confirm this. Good luck with the lowering. I could not stand my drive shaft hitting the tunnel, I would go further and fix the tunnel to avoid that, however that is just me.
i'm using air shocks, gabriels from work.(autozone) tires are 175/80 13 in the front and 185/80 13 in the back. 3in. blocks are fine without fat chicks, otherwise you'll have to raise the driveshaft part of the tunnel.
read the link i posted on the drop, it makes the handling alot better,, doesnt lower it that much (usually 1/2" or so) I have done all my 60s fords with that drop and probably always will.
make your own if you feel comfortable doing it Falcons and Mustangs 1960-1966 are 1 down perpendicular to the centerline of the original UCA mounting holes and 1/8 back just take your time and make it out of steel (sheetmetal will not work). 1/8" is good. just be safe if you do it, get the right tools.
My falcon from about 6 years ago. I could never get it low enough so i ended up putting air bags on it.
Cool thanks everyone. So I Emailed about the template and the 63-66 mustang template will work for my 61 Falcon. With lowering the front this way it seems like a lot of work for not much change. with the 3 "drop in the back wont I have to cut 1 1/2 coils off the front after I do the remount to get things to match? Also what size U-bolts does a 61 falcon have? 1/2? 7/16?
Let me know if you find someone with the correct U-bolts. These falcons have twerpy little rear axles. You'll probably have to have them custom made.
