It helps that he had it turned on when he was in an airplane, I'd imagine.

The rule maker is Ryan...and he decided that this is a site for traditional cars...but the amount of leeway allowed amazes me!
    NOBODY has to leave.
All thats asked is that you stay within the sites stated focus area. Basicly you leave anything post...65ish...and/or not about Hot Rods/Customs off this site.

    Getting along....(and this is a general thought...not directed at Street Rod/Hot Rod/VW/Custom/mini-truck...whatever)

Does that mean "we" have to just bend over and let people post about stuff, that while important to them, is something the HAMB ultimately doesn't stand for...just so people don't get their tender little feelings hurt?

If so...I'm really hopeful we never get along.

80-90.000 members. Can you imagine how diluted it would get if everyone could just blather on and on about their own version of automotive porn, with absolutely no guidelines or focus?

Sometimes feelings NEED to be hurt...just to make the place stronger.

A good and talented friend of mine recently showed me the freshly painted
    _ _ _______ sedan he's building.
    Very nice two-toned paint,new wiring,new heat/a/c setup/new wheels and tires,new glass,new weatherstripping,etc.
It's built as nice as any in any other garage, detailed and put together well.

Now,the guy is a great welder/fabricator.He showed me his Jewelianos/Lowkar/
Jaigs(sic on purpose) parts and I immediately thought...Street Rod?
Absolutely nothing handmade or an extension of his character.
    Who made who?

He's going to bend some aluminum rod for me so I can set up my home made nerf bars.
He just likes Street Rods.Nothing wrong with that, but he's just not a HAMBer.
    HAMBers have character!

    Just my humble opinion.

no I say.. WE-LAND ;) Although I much prefer Littlefield, weiands are mass produced summit racing crapola have terrible clearances, and make shit for power, when I first built my motor I started with a weiand 8-71, that I got from Doug Herbert, I didn't know any better, but during the build process I had some down time after the custom pistons I ordered from JBA Grenade'd on the dyno, so I sent her off and had the whole blower redone by littlefield. Dyno out of the box was almost 150hp less, then after havomg Littlefield go threw the blower and set it to there specs, as well as mild Teflon stripe. (whole deal only cost me about 200$) If I ever do another roots..

    http://www.littlefieldblowers.com/ or bust.
If I ever get custom pistons made again. ROSS (JE customer service sucks)

oh ya and I'm also coining a new term.. "Street Rat" the single most hamb unfriendly car classification possible

How do you define "traditional"? I'm building a 30's style track roadster, does that qualify? I'm building it from scratch and I'm doing it in 18 ga. steel with my own hands. And yet! I don't have many posts but, I did an intro when I first signed on, and then waited about 3 months before posting anything. In the past couple of weeks I've gotten more "attitude" from some guys than I've seen since high school. Even nasty comments about the Z at the end of my name.
I started building my first "Hot Rod" in 1953, a 2dr Model A sedan that I chopped 4". That was when "Old School" didn't exist, it was just the way things were done back then. I come on this site thinking I'd find some like minded people and I run into some snot nosed hardcore kid out of Texas who obviously has a real strong handle on the car world and am insulted because he doesn't think I know anything and disagrees with me. Now that's a great welcome to your "Garage".

    30's Style?

You really have no idea what this place is about. I kinda resent being called a snot nosed kid. But I really don't care what you think, because you think that your tube frame, billet wheeled, disc brake, whatever the fuck powered street rod is a "30's style track roadster." And that's fine. God bless you for building real cars in the 50's. You sir are obviously better than all of us. I don't know where that snot nosed shit came from, but whatever.

Dreddybear, You're not the snot nosed kid I was talking about, but if you want to own it, go for it. You're probably right, however, I have no idea what this place is all about, but I'm through trying to find out. I've already spent way too much time here.

The rule maker runs a big inch SBC in his car.

Why? Probably because hot rodding is about going fast, not sitting on your fender at a rockabilly show.

Now, if you want to post something constructive, show us your 16 second time slip.

90% of the cars you'll see at a Goodguy's event won't even crack 15 seconds and that includes billet street rods and the banger or flathead powered traditional cars alike.

Come to think of it, how many rods every make it onto a drag strip? Not very many would be my guess.

Hot rod...street rod...rat rod??? How about the original question...fast vs quick? My 33 Willys sedan delivery is NOT fast. It runs 13 flat at 104. Not crazy about the handling at the top end. It's a daily driver and is the target of every import with a fart can. I let them all win ON THE STREET.

Well . Last time i was clocked , i was doin about 3 fps "thats feet per second " I shove it in and out of the garage ALOT! ha ha. Maybe next year ill rattle some windows but not right now .

As for the comment i read a few pages back of most of the cars at good guys not breaking into the 15's lol . I gotta agree .

Funny story , A cousin of mine brings hos girlfriends dad down to go fishing with him and i guess this guy is a "Street rodder" well thats what he said he built . Anyways , He takes a liking to a jon boat ive had forsale and says " Hey , tell ya what , ive got all the makings for an awsome 454 up at my place , all new parts brand new in the boxes , ill swap ya even up for your jon boat if you promise to let me drive your 55 once" I say well ill come up and look at it .

So after going through all his parts i say , nice stuff but im not interested. He kinda gets huffy and says " why not , this is all new stuff , edelbrock and yadda this and jegs that " Finally i just had to be brutally honest so i could leave , i said " If i was wanting to build a 300 horse power 454 , then these are the parts i would use.

I figured he would be pissed after that but comes back with " i know , thats a STOUT motor" i kinda chuckled nd said i was aiming more for the 600 -650 mark . thats when i was informed a 55 chevy wouldnt handle that kind of power and that i was just burning cash .

Guy had built a gold chainer 38 chevy coupe that was pretty . but it was your typical sr , nice stuff , not my cup o tea . He did however havea ton of pictures from this huge flood down in tennessee i think . A parking lot at some big show and 40,000 dollar cars with whater over the cowls . It was a sight to see apparently

Well hell, that's where your problem lies, if you built one in 53, you should know how it's done. Now just keep doing it the same way every time, and never do anything new or original and you'll be fine.:D
