Does anyone ever really have an issue.....

I have a 1960 Brockway tractor traior truck that I turned into a rod, and it is abosoluty 100% not legal to run on the road. And what I mean by ilegal I mean ride height, old race tires made into cheater slickes, no wiper, no defroster, you get the point. I have never seen a local smokey pulling a custom or even the ratties of rats over. People ask me all the time if the local pd like to pull me over. They never due. I actully get more thumbs up by them.

Has anyone ever had a problem, and if so where? Just so I know to stay away from you.

I was riding with a buddy last weekend in his model A w/open lake headers. Got stuck at a red light next to a cop. He looked over with a smirk and nodded. Very weird feeling.

 

i would say this is first and foremost the single best bit of advice on the subject. on top of that i think you should at least apear to be road worthy. but to be honest i dont think you should be on the roads if you cant do the bare minimum to make it road legal. at least not any major roads. out here we have a lot of back country roads that seldom see a single car all day, i guess it would be ok for you to have some fun on roads like that, but if your takin your rod down rodeo drive and dont have brakes then you should be ashamed of yourself.

I was at a convenent store and this old retired cop tell me if he was still a cop he would write me up and have my car towed. Then his wife interrupted him
and told him to shut up and take her home. the guy said "yes dear" and they drove of in to the sun~set. : )

It's not the cops you have to be concerned with , It's the trial lawyer who will make you wish you were dead if you kill somebody , even if the event wasn't your fault . If your askin me your askin for trouble LFE

 

IMO, at least here in SoCal the cops don't F with us because so many car clubs help raise money for charities, etc...
They rally our particapation when they are having their own shows for charity...toys for tots, etc.

 

OK grampa get your polish and your folding chair out of the back of your car get them ready for your local cruise night next to your camaro's and chevelles. My brakes, steeringand suspension are legit. I was talking about the bullshit wipers, horn, defroster, or maybe in your case the very important a/c.

 

I need to hear my rod to appreciate the ride.

whoa whoa whoa. not gonna get very far with that kinda attitude. and to be honest im only 23 years old. i dont know if you know this or not but, premiums go up due to uninsured and unsafe drivers. i think if your gonna be on the roads youd be doing yourself and everyone else a favor if you had a car that is legally allowed on the roads. its just like driving drunk, dont feckin do it!

Well, in ALL states, at least the horn and wipers are MANDATORY on a street-legal car or truck. Those two things might save your ass one day, Junior! Plus, you admit your tires are crap, your ride height is lower than the statutes allow, so WTF are you trying to say here? That you are somehow proud to drive an unsafe POS on the road to stick it to the "Man"? Are you proud to break the laws that don't suit you? Use some common sense, and get those things WORKING so you don't become either a statistic, a defendant in a vehicular homicide trial, or both. Don't be such a sanctimonious ass. I have on occasion drove a car that wouldn't ordinarily pass inspection. I was young and poor and had to get to work.

I stayed away from busy areas and kept my mouth shut. I did nothing to bring attention to myself.
