So tell me about the hot rod scene in Austin, TX

I have an old friend that has approached me about working for his company (non-auto related) in Austin, TX. The office is located north of town on the MO Pac Expressway, and access to Cedar Hill, Round Rock, Leander etc.. seems easy for housing. Seeing a lot of opportunity to get a bigger shop area as the lots there are much larger than in the Phoenix area. The prices look real good too.

It's not a done deal yet and I am doing my homework. I like cars and fishing ( have a 16' Crestliner aluminum "****pie" boat w/ 40HP Merc) - seems like Austin would be a great place for both.

I live north east [Hutto] Hosuing is cheaper now...will be going up since Williamson county is the fastest growing county in the US. Easy to get around via the toll road or main drags thru town.Go to www.austin360.com and theres alot to read about the city. The area you would be in is close to Mopac and 183 which will lead ya north or south. Every other Monday night at the Dog and Duck Pub theres a good group that gets togther. Just about every Saturday night theres a few ppl hanging out downtown.

Plus the Roundup..and all the smaller shows within 100 miles.

 

If you are a hot rodder and live in Austin you are a very happy person.

 

Austin is a great place to live.The old car scene is full of nice cars and even nicer people.And if you like to fish you're in luck.Good luck

Back in the day it was voted as one of the top 10 cruisin spots in USA (Round Rock) N. Austin. That was just one spot of 50 plus cars and now theres a few today about the same size as the orig. hangout in 92. One for North, South and West areas. You can get to all of them on Toll rds. Also dont forget about all the great BBQ places for weekend drive and fun. Ive been here a long time and it just gets better every year.

 

If I had the chance to move to Austin, I'd jump in a heartbeat.

All I know about Austin's hot rod scene is what I see at Roundup. But that alone is almost worth moving there...

 

Two words - Lonestar Roundup

 

Austin is a great place to live, work and drive old cars, and as with any place it is what you make it. I moved here 5.5 years ago and didn't know a soul and started a job. 6 months later I bought a 1962 Cadillac. Searching out on how to keep it running I found the HAMB. Through the HAMB I found car dudes and have made alot of great friends and met alot of cool people here in Austin. There is alot to do, see, hear and eat. I'm biased, but I suggest lving closer to town, better way to get a real feel for the city, although housing can be pricey.

Still one of the top places to move, live and find work in the US!

 

Every time i eat Love Migas on congress up from the continental club, I think about putting in my notice at work.There has got to be some sort of controlled substance in them that makes them so tasty.
