Doors are off a 1930 Ford pickup.
The top was chopped off in the late 50's.

coupsters are nothing new, theres a ton of sport coupes that lost there lids back in the day. mine being one of them a really shit job though. still working the kinks out and in no way will it ever be a roadster it might be a good looking coupster but you will still tell its not a real roadster. i would not cut the top off a perfectly good coupe.thats almost not right. if you want a roadster just sell yours and buy a real one or one that has the roof cut of already

Before you guys with the negative comments (while for the most part true) don't pass final judgement until you've seen, from all angles, Metalshapes A. Now, I'm aware that most people don't have the talent he has working metal but his is about the most pleasing looking ROADSTER on the planet. Maybe he will post some pictures, it's been awhile since it's been on here. Last I heard it had a problem with the blower so maybe that's why we haven't seen it lately.

    Damn the O' bama, Hillary!
I drive a '29 cab, cut down to what ever YOU want to call it.
I bought it, did'nt build it.
I've changed it, paid for it, and never pretended it to be a "roadster", then I get some snot nosed, PT Loser drivin' dickhead tellin' me it's not a "Roadster"!
No shit, and I'm not Henry Ford either, Francis!

Dude I asked about this about a month ago and got one smart ass awnser "I'll get the popcorn" Its great to see that other people have coupes with the roof cut off and are ok with this. Getting ready to start on back on it soon now that x-mas is paid for. Once I get time to figure it out how to post pics I'll put them up on here.

I wouldn't start with a coupe and intentionally cut off the top,,, but sometimes you've got what you've got...

I've had a few cars in the past that had no roof. One was smashed in, the other had been cut off to start a coupester project.
If that's where your starting from,,, go for it.

    • Shorten the doors... coupe doors are longer than roadster.
    • Extend the area above the decklid.
    • Thin out the doors... the biggest giveaway to a coupester is that most folks leave the doors 3 inches thick. Ugly... Real roadster doors are only about an inch thick.
    • Pay attention to the windshield stantions. they can look alright (hard to look perfect) but they can look decent if you take the time to build the bracketry correctly...
Here are a couple I did..

Excuse the OT vehicle, but I got the same knee jerk purist response from some in the VW crowd when I built my Ghia roadster. Never mind that it was a '74 piece of crap, that someone had welded a '50s front clip on, put a flat sunroof in and then let a junk yard have. So I went ahead and ruined the car. See attached picture.

I have a 29 Ford sedan "de-toped" . I didn't start that part. The guy used a torch and got a suprise when he hit wood in the one door post. He used a saw on the other side. He didn't do a bad on capping everything with condut. Neat job for a 60's back yard rod. I would add a pic if I could figure how.
