have him wire the funds. there are too many phony banck checks money orders and cashiers checks out there. Make sure you set a time line on when the guy has to pick the car up by before he losses his deposit.Any one that wants to give you cash make sure you check all the bills with a conterfit pen.be aware of any one that wants to give you more in a check and you give them the diffrence.

Check out Western Union.
They must be good,
ALL the classic Nigerian check scam artists insist you send THEM money by Western Union.

6. Weeeeeeell, here we go again. Ebay scams. A cashier's check is just like a personal check but is issued by a bank. It can be just as phoney as a personal check. With this car going to Sweden - a red flag right there - I would call the bank it is written on as soon as you get it to see if funds are available. If the check comes for more than the amount of the sale and he wants you to send back money - there is a big red flag and you should notify ebay right away.
Make sure you check the person's feedback.
Don't release the car until you get real money. Give the check a while to clear. I have heard of banks making mistakes on bad checks.
A majority of the ebay people are fine to do business with - it is just those few who want to cheat people instead of making an honest living that make it bad for us. Good luck!

It is possible to hijack someones account and conduct an auction,or make purchases.

OR maybe he has relatives in Sweden. [IMG]

there is a lot of Hamb'rs in texas. get them all together and have him come meet you with cash in hand and if he trys to get out of hand you have some serious back up. [IMG]

western union is fool proof. he sends the wire and you go down to WU and get cash in hand. i sold a motor and shipped it to Sweden. they sent the money WU and then i shipped it. went smooth.

you can do a wire transfer into your bank from his bank if he's legit. same as western union but without having to deal with those pricks. contact your bank. what i was told is the bank sets up a wire account and than they transfer it to your account so the person never see's your account #s. your banker should be able to answer all those questions for you in two seconds flat. i've got to go in monday to set up a new checking account for business purposes and i'm gonna be asking some of the questions than myself. what car did you sell?...ken....

Ship the car to him in Texas, and then HE can do what HE wants
to do with it from there....
I personally would not deal with shipping a car to another country....

Cashiers Checks (if not counterfeit) only guarantee that the person had enough funds in their bank account, AT THE TIME THE BANK ISSUED THE CHECK, to cover the amount. You might want to search the net for cashiers checks and scams fro more info. Cashiers Checks are NOT the "same" as a bank issued Money Order.
I had a friend who was selling some expensive jewelry he had advertised in a local Paper (in North Carolina). Someone came and looked at the jewelery and said they wanted it and would pay with a cashiers check. They came back with a cashiers check the next day, and my friend said he would turn over the jewelery at the local bank where the check had been issued. When the "buyer" and my friend arrived at the bank, the banker told him that someone had withdrawn funds after the check had been issued, and there were no longer sufficient funds to cover the check in that account. My friend took the jewelery and went home, with the "buyer" telling him that this wife "must have made a big withdrawal" after he had gotten the cashiers check.

Donnie. Just make sure that you have the full amount in your hands and then the deal is golden! I would do it that way or no deal at all. My 2 cents for the day. KNUX

I got one of those scam bids on ebay a few months ago.The guy wanted me to ship a $400 truck to Africa. I turned it into Ebay sure enuff it was a scam. Ebay gave me my money back for the auction so I thougth. They charged me $80 for the whole auction but only gave me $40 back. They said that $40 of it was the listing fee and $40 was the final sale value they wouldn't give me the listing fee back. So I lost my sale and $40. They told to think of my auction like a newspaper ad if you list it there and you don't sell it the newspaper won't give your money back. I don't think I'll be selling anything on ebay for awhile.

I'm Nigerian and I can't believe how bad things have gotten for me because of these scammers. Whenever anybody asks me where I'm from, I'm telling them Greenland from now on.

Whover bought your car should hold up his end of the bargain, you shouldn't habve to do anything beyond the original deal.

I've been nice to people before and it never got me anywhere.

Hey Donnie,

I have been using EBAY for years and have never had any problems, but i know plently of people who have. I have a PAYPAL account and thats all i accept when selling and all i use to send money.

Its like a western union online, the good thing about is that it works with ebay, so they have a record on ebay when you use it [ they always have a link on your ebay home page ].

A friend sent me $2000 through PAYPAL and they called him to ask about the 'abnormal activity' which i thought was kinda rad.

Paypal links straight to your bank and withdraws the funds or deposits the money in account, they take a small fee, but you are covered if anything goes wrong.

Either way bro - when the cash is in your hand or you've been to the bank and they told you its all good, thats when you can sign over the car.
No one should expect anything more than that.

I hope this helps

L

24. Western union is by far your best bet.
I found out something interesting about a bank draft this year. My insurance company sent me a bank draft as opposed to a check or cashiers check. it took me 5 working days to cash it.
It turns out that a bank draft goes through a series of banks before it gets to you and any one of them can refuse to honor it.

I use PayPal & Postal Money orders for small stuff under $1000

and Western Union for all the other stuff

the deal with the postal money order only is if they do anything illegal its a federal offence...

26. Wire transfer is the absolute only way!!!!!!!!!!! Now for cashiers checks and money Orders the bank will hold them for 10 days..So.....If you take those you must have them wait until then to pick up the vehicle..plain and simple...

Yea, what Marcus said. And for the guys reading this that sell the lesser items, I was scammed a couple of months back on a roadster door. Sold it on Epay and made nice coin, the buyer wanted to know the shipping to Sweden, too much and could I ship it to his buddy in Tennesse since he is putting a container together to ship to this guy. So I ship to the guy in Tenn. via FEDEX. Well I never heard if it arrived or not, I normally do a follow up email. Bought a new house, moved, and then the guy from Sweden emails me that the door still has not arrived and is wanting a credit. I told him that I shipped it back in April and it is kinda late for letting me know that it is not there yet. So he wants me to credit him back the coin or he is going after me with PAYPAL. So I told him that I would try to help him out and his buddy in Tenn. called me a couple of times and left messages to call back. Low and behold the door was dropped off at the next door neighbors house (yea right). So now I do signature confirmation for my shipping.

Oh yea, no offense to you guys from Sweden, I have met some of the nicest guys from there via Email. I will post a barn find this week if I can get the computer to work.

I'm in the process of getting screwed with the good old Postal Money Order right now. I thought they were a good deal also.

Goes like this: Postal money orders do not have an expiration date and you can not cancel payment as you could with other MO's or a personl check. I sent MO to guy for an E-bay auction. He claimed he did not get it and resold Item on E-bay. I waited the 30 days and filed a form 6401 and got issued another MO which I then cashed in. No big deal, Post office kind of gave me my money back when I cashed in the 2nd MO and guy didn't give me stuff, I thought all was well....WRONG!

Seller had the money order the whole time and cashed it 120 days later. Now the post office wants the money back from me because I filed the claim and they gave me a second MO and I cashed it in. The seller got his money from the "never expired" MO. They feel that at their level he did nothing wrong!!!!!

I claimed that he never gave me the stuff and they said that was a civil matter...now I'm out twice the money (the original I gave PO for #1 money order + the money I had to pay back to the PO for the #2 MO) and to add insult to injury...the cost of an attorney if I want to go after the guy!!!!
