I think we've all been guilty of running something under the radar a time or two, but in the interest of safety ( ours included ) we should have the minimum safety stuff in place. It would **** to not have a horn and have some clueless yahoo change lanes into you while you looked helplessly on. As far as the cops around here go, they are very tolerant, and most dig the old cars. We had one come by our shop just to hear the new engine in my old truck. He called one of the officers over to hear it too. That's pretty cool in my book!!

When I staterd this thread I was not trying to start a bashing contest.

My truck is road worthy and safe. I built the ch***is out of chrommoly with cage, 5 point seat belts, franklin quick change, wilwood brakes on all four corners.
I would never put anything on the road that wasn't safe.
Ya if you drive like an ***hole your going to be treated like one. I was just asking if anyone was ever given **** for for not being completly legit. I pretty sure that everyone on this board has altered their suspension in some way.

I try not to drive anything illegal, and I certainly don't go bragging to all my friends, or people on the internet, about how bad *** I am for driving an illegal car.

ChromeHater, do you plan on getting your car legal? That's what I want to know. By the way, your signature is retarded, they're are some pretty wild street legal machines out there. You should try to join that club.

 

Sorry, you can't leave off basic equipment,ignore the roads you drive on by having minimal road height and then claim you are roadworthy and safe. Since this is your signature, "If it's legal. It's boring", then it is not likely you are going to make it here on the HAMB with that at***ude. I would advise first getting your car street legal and then abandoning your HAMB name, your signature and your at***ude and start anew. But that's just my two cents.

 

Case in point about stuff hanging too low: At a show today, I looked at a recently finished '34 Ford pickup, looks sharp and generally good workmanship, but there was less than 3 1/2" between the end of the pitman arm and the pavement. If the guy ever has a blowout on the left front, his pitman arm will plow up the pavement, and he'll be all over the road.

 

So can we just get the picture of the bunny with a pancake on it's head and put this thred to bed?

Your starting to worry me about being street legal ... lights, horn, wipers ...

First 2 are easy ... unless a bulb or relay burns out ... and it only takes a few minutes to fix ... but theres still the problem of the old Vacuum wipers GM used through till the end of the 50's ... they work ... 'sort of' ...

Been checking out a few postings with the search function, and will see about modifying a rear window wiper setup over the winter ... just trying to decide how to work in a good switch relay, so I can have variable speed and delay function ... without being too obvious ...

its mostly about at***ude man if your a **** to the cop then chances are your gonna get some tickets but then they are some cops who wife didnt give them some or fomething and just are ***holes no matter how nice you are to them but i agree your car should at least have lights,brakes,FLOORS the wipers and ride height dont concern me that much

 

scrubline rules,. wipers, lights, signals...all that stuff was legislated because of
1: something or way done before was NOT safe and
2: operating your vehicle in traffic outside of conventional traffic patterns and behaviors is unsafe.
People expect other drivers on the road to be using certain similar equipment and acting/reacting in similar ways.
Being different is the american way but there are some ways in which being different do not belong on a public highway. The police idealistically aren't there to screw with you or deny you your rights. They are there to enforce public standards on public property and also to protect you if you hurt me or mine.
Go spend a couple years in the joint, there aint no glory in illegal just ignancy.
I was locked up 2 years and never did I meet a criminal who was imprisoned because of comitting a crime. they all were imprisoned for being stupid and thinking they were better than anyone else. Committing the crime was just a side affect, an end result of the hollow poverty of a selfish person.
