I screwed up and didnt plan on replacing the stock radio antenna in my 56 and I filled the hole in. Can someone give me the location and the diameter etc for the hole so I can put the stocker back in?
Front fender p***enger side. I dont have one but I can measure one later if nobody else does. I think the 56 had a rear ant. as an available ***escory also.
We just did some work on a real 13k mi 56 210 that had the antenna on the left quarter....... Odd car---6/PG, padded dash, but no dash trim, poverty caps, 2 tone paint, radio, cloth int, skirts, wide whites.....a real oddball
The repop antenas have a timplate for you to drill. If you didn't fill the hole in the cowl where the original went you'll have a huge water leak. You can look up under the cowl inside the car with the kick panel off and see the hole if you didn't fill it. Might beable to use a long punch to dimple the fender on the underside. Two cents.
Does the Chevy go on the cowl like the Pontiac? By buddies is on the fender? Placement depending on where the car was built? Wrong placement? I simply misunderstood?
Mine was on the p***enger fender. I filled the hole. Now I want to put the stocker antenna back in, but I don't what to take the fender off to find out where the original hole was. I just want to punch a hole and put the orig antenna back. but I need a couple measurements and hole size to do it right.
I didn't fill the cowl hole, it is still there. But I cant get a straight shot from the access hole (when the kick panel is removed) inside the interior. But if the new repops have a template, I'm good. Is the template fairly accurate and does it go from the outside so you can do it with the fender on the car?
Any chance you might just want to use one of those hidden antennas. Just curious, are they any good, or just your preference. I filled my fender hole on my 55, anticipating using a hiiden antenna. Mark
I think they are OK antennas. At least thats the report over on trifive website. I screwed up and didn't put a drain hole for water. I was going to use an electric antenna but didn't provide for the drain, so I had to go back to the orig antenna to eliminate a lot of fabrication on a car with good paint
Using the ridge on top of fender, it's 5 .25 inches from the rear of the fender, and 3/8ths of an inch to the outside of the ridge.
Thanks much for the help. I drilled it out just like you told me on the pM's and it came out perfectly. Thanks. and in honor of 1000 posts, here is thumbs up to the thousands of guys just like Arkiehotrods that give advice and encouragement freely to people they will never meet.
