Well, i decided to start a build thread dedicated to my new project, a 1929 Dodge suicide sedan. I bought the car from an old farmer that comes in my work for $100 dollars. It started with plans for a shortened bantom style body, then an extended cab pickup, then just a pickup, and even the idea of a bucket, but i kinda fell in love with the 4 door look, especially the suicide doors. I picked up a 31 A axle to replace the original dodge, and a cheby 10 bolt outta an S10 4x4. I then planned on using a trusty SBC, but i may have more radical plans. I had forgotton about a motor i had stashed away, of the 364 variety. Once i get a roller, ill set the body on the frame so i can rebuild the cowl frame that had rotted away. This will be un-channeled, and most likely un-chopped. I may pinch the frame rght in front of the cowl to get a wicked altered look, but its staying mostly like i found it.

Pulled the body off the frame, and started to strip it The frame has some rust issues, but they were an easy fix. Mocked up my straight axle, and boxed the back of the cross member that will hold the front perch. Will start on my cross members as soon as i get my motor and transmission decided upon.

Some may wonder why i dont chop and channel it.
    This is why....

Cool project you have a great start and the price is right. Maybe Mopar power between the frame rails.

I like it! I had a 29 Dodge sedan many years ago, and have always thought about getting another one.

Glad your keeping it a four door, you should have one unique car when your done. You know there are tasteful ways to chop and channel a car, they don't all look like that pic. I think a mild channel, no chop, would do a lot for the proportions of your car. Maybe frame height, just enough to set the rear tire properly in the wheel well, making sure all four doors are still operational, then pinching the frame like you had suggested. I think if you can end up with something like what's in your avatar, which is obviously channelled, you'd have a real winner.

    Thanks All.

So some boxes showed up on my porch today, and i was like a kid in a candy store! Brake kits, front spring, and all the stuff to split my wishbones. Next pay check is gonna be the perches and spindles!

I also got other u-bolts, so now i can get my rear end mounted in. I started off by making front spring perches. After those were fabbed up, i went into the fun task of tearing apart my front axle. Getting the perches out has turned into quite the task. One poped out easily, but this one is being stubborn. As you can see in the pic, iv drilled damn near completely through the damn thing, and it still wont budge! I used a BFH, a press, heat, cold, and penetrating lube, and it just wont move!!!!

    Any ideas anybody?

Very cool looking project. Friend of mine just built a 30 Dodge 4dr. Tapered chop, 4" in the front 3" in the back. Your build scheme sounds like it will bad ***. Good luck.

    hit a big brick wall.

I have no ambition latelty. Most i do is go out, kick some parts. and just go inside.

    Its depressing, ya know?

  15. yeah i hear ya.. me too.. when i finally get some time to get out in the shop i just go out there and measure a few things, look at a couple things, maybe clean up a couple of parts and then go back to the house and the fridge for a cold one.. it'll p*** i hope..

Yes, I think there is a LOT of that around! I've had it (depression) for several years, take meds for it. Sometimes I do the same thing, go out to garage, sit, watch, wish, then go back in house. But lately I been talking to myself, point out that it ain't getting no closer to cruiser just sitting there, so drive myself to work. I want to finish this in my life time and there ain't much time left for it. Working on it will make ya feel better, or it does me. Good Luck. Perley

Im actually trying to decide on that right now. The motor will have it sit a tad lower in the front, but its different ya know?

The roof right now is a touch over 6 feet. its a good 3 and a half to get to the floor. I cant channel it do to me being a big fella, and it being an already small car.

Its still up for decision at this point. Nothing is solid, and everything is mocked up. I may have some things to change.

  20. glad to see you made it past that brick wall.. gives me hope :)

Its a blast to drive. Keep posting the build so we can watch the build!!

    Probably a little ol SBC.

Hopefully getting a 283 to replace the 305 in my Nash, so ill probably throw the 305 in this thing.

    Sad huh?

So i got a killer deal on the motor im gonna run.

Is a 1954 plymouth 230, with a powerflight ******. Sounds kinda ho-hum, somthing to get me down the road right? Yea....Right...

Its .030 over, decked, line honed, with custom forged aluminum pistons and lightweight rods. Its been ported, polished, and has hardened valveseats with stainless valves. New lifters and springs. Cam is a custom ground stocker with .530 of lift! JESUS!!! Head is a milled down stocker, good for about 9.5 to 1 comp. It has an offy 2 carb manifold with 2 150cfm hollys on a straight linkage. Has cast split manifolds too! Motor was stock about 100 horse, and it think its a tad bit over that now...

Now i wasnt excited bout the ******, but he had it tightened up when it was rebuilt so it shifted harder. Also got a spare block, 2 spare ******s, 3 heads, and boxs and boxs of stuff.

    Heres the best part....

    All for $300!!!!!!

You are my new person I love to hate! My final motor in my 28 dodge will be a built flathead chrysler six. You are making me very jealous I won't be working on it for a while and don't even have a piece to start with for my final powerplant. Total congrats on your score this thing is going to be *****in. I am going to try to end up with a late 40's period build on mine but have a long way to go and other cars in the way. Can't wait for more posts. SWEEEEEET!!!
