Ive got a 51 Merc four door that has no floor what so ever....I desperatly need someone to take some measurments for me cause I think my B-Pillers may have slightly adjusted themselves from the ****py bracing job the guy did before cutting the floor out....I bought it already half-*** channeled over a later model buick frame....horrible job and I wanna do it right....also anyone who has ever replaced a complete floor in a four door merc...I could REALLY use your knowledge.....thanks
if i were you i would put the doors back on line everything up, make sure your gaps are good and put some tacks on the doors so nothing moves and the body is braced with the doors . then put some new bracing in that you could work around then cut the doors loose, maybe just 1 to get in and out, and go from there.
Hey, Are you going to rebuild this as a 4 door? If so, since it's been '' dropped'' on a Buick frame ,hang your doors, adjust all your gaps to your own standards of fitment, brace your door openings and remove the doors and build your inner rockers, floors and filler pieces around this. Specs. from another 4 door will only get you so far on a project like this! S****ey Devils C.C. " Meanwhyle, back aboard The Tainted Pork"
Thanks for all the post's......the door hinges were rotted pretty bad so Im gonna just tack weld the doors on and go from there....thanks and if anyone know where a great thread is with pics to look at some merc build I would greatly appreciate it....Nato
hit the search ****on up top and type "mercury" in the box. I always change the setting right below it to "search ***les only", then on the right where to search, click on message board. you'll get a LOT of hits. I'm building a 4 door Lincoln (same body from A pillars back as merc) so i've been doing that a lot lately. Good luck to you
If you would like I build floors from fire wall to trunk, I also make those very hard to do inner rockers and have a complete frame package. Let me know ifI can be of help- Mercury Charlie
There you go, the man has answered. But if you did a frame swap and didn't have a floor why didn't you cut the body loose from the Buick and save the floor with the frame and most of the firewall. Then you would now have a full floor to fasten the body to. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
Mercury Charlie: Thanks...several people Ive talked to on here have mentioned your name...Im going to be in Austin hopefully in November and had planned on stopping by your place to talk. I would be interested on the cost of the inner rockers and floor from the firewall back. I would be interested in what else you make for these cars. Thanks Mr48Chev: I wish it was me that did the Buick frame swap. I bought it just like in the pics already dropped on the buick frame. It was done by a guy near me that got in bad health and needed to sell the car so I bought it. He said that the floor was beyond repair so he s****ed it. Thanks for the feedback guys....any help is definately appreciated....
Just a question....having bought the car already braced inside....the only door that didnt line up correctly was the p***enger front. It shut just fine except, (if your looking at it shut from the outside) in the upper left corner gap wasnt right. Could that be because the A-piller down may have moved forward a bit. I know that a millimeter in one place equals a foot elsewhere when it comes to this kind of stuff......any thoughts
