Yep, what RodSTRace said. Except it may have rusted off. The numbers were relatively lightly stamped on the frames, and if your truck was also from Connecticut, road salt probably gobbled it up long ago. Some people have been known to buy a number stamping kit from Harbor Freight. (7/16" tall numbers, spaced 5/16" apart from each other.) This is, of course, highly illegal, and I do not recommend you do this.
Yeah Ive looked on the frame and I couldnt see anything Ill have to sand down the top of the frame to see if they are there. Yes, Those are 20" dodge steel wheels. I hope nobody has done those on a truck yet.
I'd wire brush it or use metal prep as sanding may remove any numbers that are there. As one of the others said, they are stamped pretty lightly from the factory.
Well from what Ive just read is that they may or did use the serial number for the registration back in the day. In that case I should be golden because I have the tag off the door post with the numbers stamped in it right in my hand. I thought there was more to it then that. Now I have my connection vin verify my tag.
SN# on the drivers side just behind the front shackle, should match the SN on plate on passenger door frame. For the VIN number, they used the engine number, found on drivers side just below the head of first cylinder. I just bought a 1939 Dodge, and had trouble getting it titled in Florida, since someone in the 1960's swapped the motor. No one caught it until now. I finally found a competent DMV officer that helped me out though. Those 20's should look great! Art
