I've heard the rumors about Nick Mura's early demise. Does anyone know for sure? He was a wild character.
hey 33 tudor did your buddy get the pics i sent to him when we first found the willy's in the weeds ?i e-mailed him the pics about a week ago, i never heard from him if he got them or not ???????????? ken
Awesome to see this car being brought back to life. A true piece of hot rod history. Here's a shot from the Rodder's Journal, issue 39, and a few more from James Handy's web site. He sells vintage drag racing photos, and has a great web site. Who knows, he might even have some more of the truck. What I think is interesting is he captured a shot when the truck was gold, apparently before they finished the multi-color rainbow-like paint job. Please contine to post updates. http://jameshandyphotography.zenfolio.com/f914032728
These are the wheels: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=400926&highlight=magnesium I have the rears, but you already knew that.
Anybody else notice the slick twin electric water pump set-up - one on each side of the engine? Not sure, but they look like Shure-Flow industial pumps, or maybe Jabsco marine bilge pumps. I'm trying to figure out what the line from the valve cover breather cap goes to. Maybe some sort of early 'crankcase evac device - possibly using the otherwise unused stock engine driven mechanical fuel pump as a vacuum source???
in rodders journal they stated the cab was fibergl*** but it is not, it is steel the doors are fibergl*** !
If you can't find a pair of the mag 15x4 Torq Thrusts, ET Wheels just released that they're going to make a perfect replica of the old 15x4 wheels in aluminum. I know some people won't like this, but I think it's great. I personally like polished wheels, and polishing magnesium gets old really fast.
Those do look great, now if they'd just make a replica of the old 15x10 or 16x10 Torq Thrusts with the deep offset, I'd be all over the set.
http://www.vintageeng.com/MagWheelsProduct.html 15x4" replica of the torq thrust IN MAGNESIUM and thanx for the headsup for the new etIII wheels, cool that they make em in alloy aswell
I checked on the wheels from Vintage Engineering a few months ago, and he only had like 2 pairs left then. A little blurb came out in the Rodders Journal, and by the time that ad ran, he had already sold most of the wheels. Apparently they had cast them a year or two ago, but had never really advertised them. Who knows, they may all be gone now, and the guy I talked to sounded like it wouldn't be any time soon that they might be running any more.
Hey guys, I just got off the phone with Michael. I'm selling him a mint pair of 16x10 rear Halibrand 4 holes. I p***ed on the info about the reproduction 5 spokes. He still needs the Pirelli front tires and M&H Racemaster rear slicks. He said he is also looking for a Hilborn 4 port. I let him know that Hilborn is still making them. They are trying to have the truck done by January. I cant wait to see it!
i think the reason why it survived so well was because when i found it the truck had a very thick covering of old metal flake purple paint on it and i mean real thick i then stripped down the bed back to aluminum and then don czapkay spent 30 hours polishing it and then i went and had the 426 decals made to look like the originals and put back on i can't wait to see it done
Almost ready for primer! Found the rear wheels.....On the HAMB! I think we found some front tires and rear slicks, so it's coming along!
Here are the rear wheels back from the polisher. Now just waiting for the M&H slicks. The body is being blocked, almost ready for paint. Will post pics when I go to Street Toys.
Awesome you found the correct wheels. They turned out beautiful. This is going to be a really cool project to see come together.
O.K. Here's the latest update. The first batch of chrome should come back from the plater's tomorrow. The body is ready to be painted, the paint has been bought, the rear wheels are mounted. Sorry I don't have any pics, I haven't been to Street Toys in a while. Maybe I can get over there tomorrow, If I do, I'll post some new pics!
O.K. So I finally got down to Street Toys today and took a couple of pics and picked up the rest of the parts for polishing.
That's going to be so awesome. It is going to be so cool to see it come together. Thanks for the update.
