Worked on tearing down the roadster today. All I gotta do is unbolt the body and it'll be ready to lift off. Then strip the frame of the engine, tranny and axles and start all over again with the V8 stuff It amazes me how simple these things are!
You must've got inspired this past weekend. Looks good and you have plenty of time before the next season starts.
The 30's rod was inspiration to me ...and I hate to see the change but... It is YOUR car and I know it was always your intention to convert to V8 and I'm sure you won't disappoint ! ! !
when they were being built old henry ford only required his workers to have a 77 I.Q.! maybe that explains it.
i dont see why everybody ditches the 4 bangers in these rides man! I love inlines, and hearing that thing run at billetproof was awesome!!! Sad to see it gone....=(
I don't know how many of you guys have heard of McPherson College in Kansas, they have a great Auto Restoration program, at the start of the year we would bring in a model A and have it stripped to the bare frame in one day, the body would be mounted on a rolling jig, the engine tore down and heat tanked, but thats the easy part, then we would spend the rest of the year restoring it back to factory specs, this is where I learned that I would rather rod a car then restore it, unless it's a rare classic then they should be off limits, but most any A or T should be fair game, anyone can restore a car it takes a real man to street rod it! I got my butt ripped for laying out chop lines on a freshly blasted A couple, we had all the lines set up with cut here written all over, just a joke but the Professor gave tour to some big shot money people and they had a fit when they saw it, he wasn't too bad since he had a 33 tudor he was rodding at home.
I still have the 2002 street rodder that featured his car. that article / car had a huge influence on me and my hot rod tastes and is the reason I have a 28 on 32 rails. 4 for plow 8 for gow
You're tearing it down already?!?!?! But there is fall driving to be done! Oh, that's right, you are on a little 'vacay' and like it was said above, you'll be done in a week! That small block is gonna rock and roll!
Chris and Megan, you son of a bitches!!! Enough with the Small Block hate. I go home and cry because I am running one in my '35 after reading all the hurtful stuff you guys say. Anyways Chris, I think this is going to be awesome. I can't wait till 4pm eastern time when you'll post a video of it running. I will expect that later today. Any speed parts for this roadster???
Ok, it's the next day. Are you done yet? You'll love the V-8 power over the inline 4... Trust me, I know.
Yeah, me too. For the past two years my only cars have been banger powered, or my flathead 6 1952 Ford pickup which is just as bad! I need a V8 car man!! Plus I drove this all day Saturday on a run...man, that was like a good drug to an addict
Don't worry, that 4 banger has been in two of my cars already, it will find it's way into another one I'm sure! Sounds mean with the open pipe, huh
I do, too! Bruces car, to me, is the perfect example of 28/29 roadster on 32 rails. My pocketbook won't allow me to do a copy of that car though...so I gotta settle on the plan in my head
It quite charging before I left, so figured instead of spending the money to fix it and drive it for a couple more weeks, might as well dive right in! I <3 SBC's
What do you mean hate? I LOVE that your using a small block, and I'm using a flathead. I have a winfield cam and a Thickstun intake. Oh and headers, thats about it for this run. Running cast iron heads over the stock aluminum...the cast iron are higher compression If I was running a SBC (wish I could), It would have a tunnel ram, two 600 Edelbrocks, two triagular air cleaners, Accell HEI, Heartbeat valve covers, Chrome pan, timing cover, timing pointer and dipstick (tranny and oil). I would also paint the heads cast blast so they look aluminum. It would have to be a 4 bolt main with flattop pistons and 2.02 valves, oh and a good RV cam. Block huggers would come out the side, and 9mm yellow plug wires. Chrome alternator and bracket, and all the pulleys aluminum with vent holes. Oh, it would have a double roller timing chain, I don't wats my time with that single roller shit. Block HAS to be orange, too. Tranny will be the best- TH350 with a stall and a shift kit, harnessed with a B&M slam shifter. So, thats the perfect set up to me...but I can live vicariously through you because I know your going the same route with your mill.
Oh yeah! I love Bruce's car. I must have spent over an hour looking at that thing the last time I was at the Hotrod-a-Rama. My little sister would want a Hotrod after spending time with that car...
Cool -- looking forward to following the progress on your AV8! Man, that car rules. Absolutely everything about it! No wonder you were smiling so big! Malcolm
The fact that you took the time to write all that means you are gay. That's a scientific fact. I hate you, but not because your gay. I hate you because your a smug son of a bitch who flaunts his flatheads. I am getting closer to owning one for my '32 though. I've got 2 97's and some heads. Now I just need the proper block and intake and my self esteem with be back in check.
