We have a lot of guys in my home town that run 440 mopars or 460 fords that make plenty of noise, kind of a distraction so people think there running super hard but there mainly driving around , But they make it look good.

I like to run a 350 chevy so I can quietly do my honey caking around the arena.

Yo, guys. Things are gettin' OT and into some of the areas that can get this thread we've all been enjoying permanently shut down. If that happens, a great thread dies and we all lose.

my buddies dad used to run at Jantzen beach speedway here in Portland in the 50's and he told me about some of the cars he wishes he wouldn't have destroyed, a**** them were a 40 willys coupe, and a 32 ford B sedan. We found the grille shell from the 32 a few years before he died and he told me he wishes he had kept more of that car but the grille was all he kept. It's in pretty good shape and still has the brushed faded paint on it. It will grace the front of our late 31 roadster pu with a B mtr four port Riley and 2 inch Riley carbs (found in his ba*****t.still had dirt from the track and the linkage for the carbs are bent)

  9. No, it's all relative. It's just the comparisons between old and new.

I'd like to see what the demo derbies will be like 30 years from now! I don't think any cars made since the late 70's would last...

  11. There is still plenty of 80's and 90's full framed, rear wheel drive models, and the Crown Vic's are still full-framed to this day. When it goes to all compacts and mini vans, that's when it's time for me to quit.

"13," yeah, somehow I can't imagine George Jetson & Mr. Cogswell going up against an Imperial or a '56 DeSoto. LOL

Man we are in the same boat as you...as soon as the v-8 full framers are gone, I'll be in the stands drinking beer or riding the Zipper out in the midway. Nothing against the mini car guys and gals out there, they just don't do the same for me as the big cars. Alot more truck derbies are popping up out here but they too will eventually be gone.......smash on brothers and sisters, this is actually one motorsport that will defiantely change in the future!!!! As far as car counts go out here they have been slowly decreasing over the last 6 years. Red Bluff Ca. is a pretty big derby and 5 years ago 58 cars were in the main event....this year we only had 15!!!! Sign of the times...too ****in bad! JOKER JASON.

Crash/Burn & Jason, it IS sad to hear that the sport will be forced to change, since the heavy cars are getting scarcer & scarcer. But when there's nothing left to m***age into shape, what's left?

Sure, it was a wild ride for -- what? -- 2 or 3 generations? But it's still sad to see nothing at the end of the tunnel. All people in the future will be able to do is watch vieos of guys REALLY goin' at it.

Yah it actually ****s, every county fair that I know of all over the country has derbies, of course now some tracks are trying motorhomes and vans, suburbans and that stuff but when the big cars are all wiped out then I'll be done. We just found out that some of the promoters out here might be outlawing the uni-body imperials so for the guys who have been buying those cars they are going to have to go to the few all Imperial derbies. We' ll just keep doing it untill we can't anymore. See ya, JOKER JASON.

Jason: Well the dollar bill hold a ton of sway, SO maybe those promoters will bend and allow bigger, non-traditional cars and trucks in, just to keep their bank accounts goin' ! As a frined of mine used to say, "NEVER say die!"

I can't wait for Dodge Magnum wagons to start showing up at derbys. The newest car I've seen at a V8 derby so far is a bubble top Caprice wagon.

My buddy back in IL runs a few derbys a year. He always uses mid 70's Chevy, Pontiac full size & wagons. I always ***** at him because he takes nice, daily drivers and smashes them. To me, if it runs and drives and is in decent shape, don't smash it.

Its less work to build if it was grandmas weekly driver, if your good you wont even have to paint it. Just throw on a number and go. Most 70's cars were s**** from the factory anyways.

I ran my first derby in; 1958. you paid 25.00 to enter and they firnished the cars. the cars were from a local junk yard with the gl*** removed a five gallon gas can mounted inside and the doors wired shut. the cars were numbered and you drew a number when you entered. no cheating on the cars. also the cars were all lined up on one side and the drivers on the other side. when they droped the flag you ran to your car got in hoped that it started and the race was on. too much purpose building of cars now.

We smash the nice cars because it's unsafe to crash the rusty ones. Ironic, huh?

  27. This would be awesome. I could get into something like this for sure. This type of derby would really show who could drive.

That's a new one on me. But I gotta say that I like the sound of that arrangement. Kind of sounds like the IROC Series of Demo Derbies!:D

Or better yet, the I-WRECK Series!

Man that would be cool, maybe I can talk to the racetrack here in Lakeport to do something like that next year, I think people would dig that, no welding on the cars at all, just chain and go!!!!! JOKER JASON.
