Hello everyone, my son and I hope to learn and gather as much knowledge as we can here. Twenty years ago I bought a 67 Chevelle and still own it. Over the years I guess life in general just took over and Im once again looking to get back into old cars etc. Now, instead of just me loving old cars my 5 year old son (Henry) also does, in fact, just out of the blue he started asking questions about hotrods, streetrods, etc. and when I started to explain about them I found myself remembering just how cool the whole experience is. I thought it was pretty neat in todays age, a 5 year old shows hard core interest in old cars, especially when all the neighbor kids just sit around and play video games. When I was young my dad had some really neat old cars and I loved every minute of it especially the car shows and races, I would just like to do the same with my boy. My son and I really like T Buckets and have decided to build one. So far we have the steel, and some miscellaneous parts and looking for more before we start. The engine of choice is going to be a Ford 300 inline 6 and thats where were going to start building first. Look forward to chatting and learning from all you folks. Mike and Henry
Hey Mike & Henry welcome from illinois. Yes a t-bucket is a great project, years back I picked one up that needed some TLC had fun with it for about a year and moved it on to someone else to mess with. Shawn
Welcome to both of you. Where are you located? Wis is full of hamb people. Hunnert car pileup should blow your sons mind car wise, plus give you two tons of ideas on what you can do with your T
Thanks for the warm welcome, were from Watertown. That's about 1/2 way between Milwaukee and Madison. Mike
hi guys, you sound like a nice man, will you be my daddy too? Welcome hot rod brothers! The Cheaters & Milwaukee say welcome! Sincerely, Cheatercarl
Welcome from a transplanted fellow Cheesehead formally from the Wausau ( Wittenberg) area now in Sandy Valley NV 45 miles S.W. of Las Vegas. You Love this site. Michael
Welcome from Dousman but I get to Jefferson and Watertown almost every wednesday. There is a guy that sells fibergl*** roadster bodies in Watertown. I should say the last time I noticed he was still there but it's been a couple of years since I been done that street. He was selling them on Ebay is how I found him. Good luck on your father and son build.
I also have a 5 year old son thats starting to wander out into the shop more and more these days. It is a good feeling - enjoy it !
Nicefloor, Yeah! your kind of in the same boat as me. When I was five I was surrounded by hotrods etc. so I considered that normal life. My son however has only seen them in some old pictures and now he lays in bed and wont sleep because he keeps asking questions about them. Well.....I bought some magazines for him to look at and he falls asleep looking at them so obviously I gotta figure something out. It's important for me to make sure he sees that side of life instead of spending time watching TV or playing video games with the neighbor kids. Now that we started working on the bucket I can't keep him out of the garage. I brought home the Ford 300 inline and I thought he was going to have a heart attack, he asked me if he could sleep in the garage next to the motor. Scary, he's only five. Mike
Mike and Henry ... has a nice ring to it Welcome from SR here in VA and FL You might enjoy this read ...... lots of Father and Son stories that will make you feel good inside! http://www.stillrunnin.com/
welcome.. it good to here there are other future rodders out there.. my son is the same way... i wouldn't have it any other way..
Welcome from Wales, Wisconsin Just got my project (55 PLymouth moredoor) to work on with my 10 yr old son. Sure beats video games!!!!! Good luck with the T bucket
That's cool that you also have kids that enjoy steel, tires, and pistons. What i'm trying to do teach him that anything with a motor is cool. I just don't want him to be one sided and loyal to one brand. You know what i'm saying right.......The whole "Fords are better than Chevy" kind of thing, or vice versa. I want him to look at something like a Packard and really appreciate it. Like I say, it's all about steel, tires, and pistons. Mike
Sounds Like SRM should do a Father / Son feature to me I love to see the kids in the garage! Sure beats the video games
Good luck on your project! I learned from my dad untill I went to technical school and then taught him a few things...Welcome from Appleton !
Welcome from New Richmond. My kids are also getting interested in cars. My daughter always helps me get the Caddy ready for a show or cruise and my son loves going to the shows also. Anything you can do to get them interested in something other than TV or video games is well worth the effort and the memories will last a lifetime.
Mike and Henry, Welcome from Minnesota! Cars can be a great hobby and a good way to bond. In the summer months there are tons of shows, swap meets and cruises to get involved with. I favor GM stuff, but a 300 Ford 6 cylinder is a solid engine and nothin' sounds lkie a 6 banger with headers! Good Luck with the project! Tim
