This looks cheap enough. Never used one. Anyone ever tried one of these? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MRG-7668/
You get what you pay for, but it should get the job done . You have to buy your own switch to mount .
No Park locking feature...so If you have kids you better be careful! Also no reverse lockout...actually NO way to keep it out of any gear if you hit off it. Just clicks from one to the next. It's a glorified piece of shiny steel flat-bar with a knob on top. It'll shift...but it ain't pretty or precise.
Given how bad Mr Gasket's more expensive shifters are I can only imagine the depths of it's ****iness. Have you considered a piece of lumber bolted to the transmission? It'd have to be more durable and accurate.
if your looking for cheep..... here one for like $40bucks.... http://www.jegs.com/i/Spectre/865/6423/10002/-1 .....
both shifters linked are cheap flimsy items. They are one pivot point above shifting with a piece of coat hanger attached to the trans slector shaft. They will get the job done as far as shifting, but have no built in detents, no safety switches and bolt the the floor with two 1/4" bolts. They are the cheapest form of shifters but have been used in thousands of cars.
I have the B&M version of that shifter. it works fine for my rod and it has a nuetral safety switch. it's like 110$
I put one of the hurst "Indymatic" shifters in my 61' chev car which is the exact same shifter its just under the Mr.Gasket name now since they own hurst shifters now. It works fine if you just want to put it in "D" and just drive with it but starting from low and manually shifting with it is scary due to the design. Also clearance between the tunnel and trans in my application was a pain due to the linkage and arm that attaches to the shifter that requires lots of room to work. The reason why I chose this shifter was to resemble four speed without actually having one. Its good for this but definatley not for racing purposes.
I have that shifter. I bought it new in the box on eBay for $35 as a temporary 'driver' setup before I could afford something better, that was 2 years ago and it's still in the car. It works fine for what it is, but it will get replaced with a nicer shifter.
I have that shifter. Its okay. Its got kind of a spring reverse lockout thing that kind of works. For $65 on Amazon I cant complain and would probably buy it again if I needed a shifter
I have been wondering about this shifter too, and after reading this thread I think I will wait and get a Gennie Shifter.
It won't work on a Muncie or a Toploader so I don't think it's any good. Just my opinion though. Pete
Early MustangII's used a linkage type shifter that is a better choice as far as positive gear selection goes. Good luck finding one now, though.
Its just a Hurst Indy shifter that says MR Gasket on the box. Same as I had in the Pusher. No reverse lockout so you have to learn how to drive to use one, but I've known you long enough to know that you won't have a problem with that aspect of it. Neutral saftey switch? How many of you guys have 'em on your 4 speeds?
I do, actually a clutch switch for sticks, neutral safety for autos. Won't build a car without one, seen too many projects get run into the garage wall or toolboxes when they're getting worked on. Damaging your car is bad enough but damaging the shop ****s too.
