dawn dish soap and "golden fleece". i`ve been using this combo for thirty five years and my hands could pass for surgeons hands. "golden fleece" is made by Chore Boy, no longer carried by the local grocery stores, i order it by the case online.
The WORX. I get it from the Matco dealer is what I use at home. The uniform company supplies us with some that contains walnut shells that works great also.
I thought there would be alot more posts about pre-greasing your hands before you start working. If I know I'm gonna end up with the full black hand, I start by rubbing cleaner on my hands and just wiping it off with a towel: no water. Grease comes off a whole lot easier when it's all said and done.
someone finally mentioned cupran.it is the best i have used and there are good ones, but cupran will cut anything and is harmless.you almost feel guilty having soft hands when you clean up..so you might use a little lac. thinner after just to rough up your hands.
He's not shitting you either, its amazing how much grease it'll wick out. My hands are heavily callused, particularly my finger tips and along the sides of my index fingers. The calluses on the sides of my index fingers are always have small cracks that are damn near impossible to get grime out of, but they are always spotless after I eat fried chicken.
I worked on big trucks doing brakes and the only thing that ever got my hands clean was Dawn. The scrubs worked well for me. I have used gas, oil,wd,brake clean, thinner. etc. I try to remember to put some gloves on but most of the time I forget about them.
Boraxo. Just the thought of those 20 mules hauling it across 100 miles of Godforsaken Southern California desert makes me get all weird inside. Thanks, mules! Your stuff rocks!
+1 for Lava soap. I still keep some goop around as well, but as someone else pointed out it doesn't seem to work as well as it once did.
I just have to share this. Can't agree with the fried chicken grease option. I worked with a guy for years who ate fried chicken for lunch for sure 3 x's a week. His hands were covered with grease, he'd eat that damn chicken with the grease runnin down his hands, lickin his fingers after every bite & I know it didn't help remove that grease a bit. The finishing touch was when he'd pull his snot-rag out, open it up (sounded like velcro ) wipe off his hands and put it back in his pocket. Now to be fair, I never could look after the snot-rag procedure but I don't believe it got the grease off either. OMG I'm getting a visual!!
OK, I've used GoJo with and without pumice, Boraxo, Lava, the Orange stuff, Simple Green, WD-40, Gasoline, Kerosene, Liquid Dawn & just about everything else mentioned in this thread. But now I found what I call my "Magic Soap". I once grabbed a bar of my wife's Neutrogena glycerine soap (the clear see thru amber soap bar) and was amazed how it lifted the grease and grime without wrecking my skin like all the rest. It also smells sorta like my dad's old Brut after shave. I now buy the stuff at BJ's Wholesale Club by the box. You gotta try it.
I've tried just about everythiung mentioned except that last post about Nutragena. But by far the best has been to wet my hands with water, pour in one palm a generous amount of Ajax Degreaser dish detergent and follow with a heavy sprinkle of Arm&Hammer Washing Soda. Rub in well and rinse. Best I've found in over 50 years of getting greasy. grimey hands. Dave
At one time I had some waterless hand cleaner that had lost its gel texture and had gotten runny and watery. After searching on the net for hand cleaner recipes I found some with Boraxo laundry booster. Mixed some with the watery hand cleaner till it got nice and thick. It supercharged the hand cleaner and became my favorite. Its the best I have used so far. I think the recipe I found on the net used Murphy's Oil Soap with the Boraxo.
what about softness? do any of these include some kind of lotion i have sentisve skin and cant have my hands all scratchy ill just never get my tampon in without scratching my inner thigh.
Permatex Ultra Cherry is my new favorite, works really well, is cheap, and the pumice isn't too harsh (greasy face).
Snap-On! I have been using the Snap-On hand cleaner for several years now.It cost a little more but does a great job and wont dry out your hands like others do.I tried it once and was hooked.... Steve
I tried a new one from Advanced Auto and its called Jig-A-Clean and it works with out water and works quite well.
