  10. My dad swapped two California 55 T-birds for the stone fireplace in their basement that they don't use. Geez, I 'd have been way happier looking at the two birds against that wall, ha,ha! Oh well, guess it will save a fight someday, my sister and brothers can fight over the stones!!!!

I traded my project "budget" for my wifes college education. Probably could have built two trucks for that price. And wouldn't you know it, she graduated in May and they laid off about 300 teachers in June.

  15. Back in 72 sold my 65 Vette conv. 327 Fuel Injected to pay for a new kitchen.

  19. Is that the same as answering "Take your pick, me or your f#$king hot rod." with "Thank God. I never thought you would ask."?

I sold a "glass" 32 roadster to finance the addition to our house It was kinda easy for me as it turned out to be a full fendered billet laden car instead of the "bare bones" hiboy I had envisioned it to be. Listened to too much advice instead of following my original idea.

I'm still in college so reality hasn't set in yet, but my dad sold his 34 ford tudor so my mom could go back to college.

  23. In 1976 I sold my '30 Model A pickup (see my Avitar) to pay for my wife's engagement ring. After 32 years of great married life she still has the ring and still have her, '77 Vette (same year we were married) and a '51 Henry J project. I think it was a good investment. Wish I had the Model A back though.

Sort of, but not that drastic. We built a nice room on and just about the time we were getting finished up a guy that owns a furniture place in Carson City was breathing real heavy over a restored Wayne 515 gas pump with original shell globe on top. He offered me $1500. I said what would that be in furniture dollars. He said I'll give you $2800 worth of furniture. So my wife and daughter got to go on pretty much a dream shopping spree.

If you find a Marmon Herrington F2, trade your wife for it.

I traded a '40 Coupe for a new sewing machine for my wife. Dumbst thing I ever did. Cost me four times as much to get another '40 & the wife got the sewing machine in the divorce and I had to buy her out of the '40. Still got the '40 and nobody to bitch at me about the cars.

Not quite as drastic, but I sold one of my trucks to buy new furniture for the living room. Wife was pretty happy about that decision.

I found the old 68 Barracuda from back in high school a few years ago. Saved up enough money to buy it and was ready to pick it up on Christmas eve.

I stopped in a jewelry store to see if I could pick up something for the wife (It was Christmas after all) and I thought I had a little extra even after paying for the car.

I ended up buying the wife some shiny rocks for Christmas that year instead of my Cuda. She knew I spent every dime of the car money on her present, and for me to do something like that was totally out of character. Hell I will eat Top Ramen for weeks to pay for a car part hehehe.

I think it snapped something in her brain. I saved up for another year found the car again and bought it with her blessings. Then for the next couple of years I scratched and saved everything I could to spend on making it safe for NSS racing.

I had the cage built and bought engine parts a little at a time and sold some stuff off to pay for a pro built short block, that grew into an entire engine. She never once asked how much money I spent. She still wears the shiny rocks daily and all is well.

We are both happy and it only put off my car for a while.

Of course keeping her happy is a big deal for me because I married so far above my pay grade it is unreal. We never go to a restaurant without the waitress asking us if it will be on separate tickets. Think wonder woman and uncle fester hehehehehe. She must be blind cuz I aint rich hehehehe.

A friend I worked with had been collecting cars since High SChool. When he married they paid for the house and the furniture by selling about a half dozen of the cars he had and didn't care much about anymore. He also sold a few more to buy the lot next door and fence the whole operation. Worked out well and he still had about 18 cars left to play with.
