i have a 1940 ford banjo rear, that i plan to rebuild does anyone know if the race where the brake drum bearings ride can be repaired. they have some pitting damage and if they can be redone where and how can find someone to repair them. thanks
No good if pitted.......replace them...they are very available....TIMKEN will offer the proper races......go to a good bearing shop and they will help you out.... CB
If you're talking about the built-in bearing surface that the big-*** caged roller bearing rides on, then this is an integral part of the axle tube. There are guys that will grind or turn the old surface down and press a hardened sleeve onto the original - than you're as good as gold. Talk to "HotrodWorks" in Idaho - I know they do this. http://www.hotrodworks.com/index.asp.html Hope this is what you're asking about. Dale
Bored & Stroked.... You are correct........I was wrong in my advice.....I thought he was referring to the races inside the axle bells where the roller bearings reside.......dohhhhhh.......good advice from you.......I know Ken & Nick from the Hot Rod Works and they have done driveshaft work for me......they are top shelf and the experts on banjo rears...... Cheers.... CB
the sleeves are readly avaibly, and you can get a big rig shop to also turn the surface down and install the sleeve,
