LOVE those valve covers. Very few things are as gratifying as taking that first ride behind the first engine you build!

its going in my 53, check out my albumn. thanks for the comments. it was a pain getting the intake and VC's to fit together, but advice from fellow hambers really helped thanks guys

  11. Looks good ! Keep up the good work and you'll be a PRO someday !!! >>>>.

  12. Great job man!

Wait until you fire it up,,it will be like you had a child born,,,great feeling!

Another thing I am proud of is,,,looks like you did it at home,
Some people think you have to have a surgical clean room,,or a lab like Nasa. Yes,,you must keep things clean,,but,, you can still do that and build a great engine at home.
Congratulations for taking the step and having the guts to do it yourself!

Anymore guys out there want to step up to the plate?
Anyone can do it,,,if you read up on it and try.
Even if you make a mistake,,fix it and go on.

My hat is off to the first timers,,I remember my first engine,,,it was a great feeling!

GREAT job. Done my first one 37 years ago, and done MANY ever since. Keep up the good work. Hearing it fire up will excite the HELL out of you. For me now the new venture is BODY AND PAINT. Hope I can do as well as I did with engines, trannys, rear ends, etc.

Like "Desoto291hemi" said, you think you feel good about it now... just wait til that thing fires up for the first time. That's a thrill you'll never forget.

I like the choice of color too. An old-time mechanic told me years ago he always painted his engines black - 'cause the oil leaks didn't show up as badly!! Always got a chuckle out of that one.

(If it was mine I'd do away with the billet pulleys though.. but that's just me.;)

    Have fun!

Very nice and subtle on the bright stuff. That is the look I am going for on my next engine...

Excellent choice on the valve covers and painting the intake. I like the aluminum pullys with the valve covers as long as you dont use turnbuckles or rod ends on threaded rod for accessory adjustment. I'd like to see old style plate brackets made out of aluminum plate but whatever , it's your engine. I think aluminum old style brackets would bring the aluminum pullys in with the classic valve covers as a theme and "modern" brackets I think would detract.
I would go so far as to suggest a chrome or aluminum closed element air filter resembling the old chevy dual snorkel unit. Or maybe something that would look like an oilbath where the air comes in around the top between the lid and the base but the face of the base shields the element from view. the caddy filter is cool but cliche' run away from them is you see one for sale you won't be able to stop yourself. I know...I used to put Iroc wheels on everything

The engine looks great. I am finishing up my first motor build and install in my 53 also but mines going in a caddy. Good luck

  23. yes, nice looking engine..including the pulleys. the one thing bad about those billet ones is it's almost impossible to mount a mechanical fan to it. if you are going electric fan, then that wouldn't be an issue

ive got an aluminum water pump pulley on my 57 chevy and have a lightweight fan on it? whats hard about it?

however even though i have one (doesnt mean i like it, i wanna replace it with an electric fan because of some clearance issues with my radiator hoses(too close for comfort

but does look good! the billet frees up a few extra horsepower too! i think 10 horse if you change all 3 to aluminum

on the electric fan vs pulley, the company I got the pulley from gave my some coned shaped inserts for the pulley if I want to run a mechincal fan. I havent gotten that far yet. I still need to smooth out some of the fires wall bs but its been really hot out here in southern california and the fact that I have to work out in the blazin sun all day doesnt help me get motivated to work on the car in the sun on my days off.
