Event Coverage I actually cried at this one, and went out to spend time with my babys

  1. For the second time in this thread, because a junkyard, operating or not, is a business, not a charity. All these guys who expect stuff to be cheap because they're buying it at a junkyard apparently have no idea of the expenses involved in running one. Even the places that just sit there with one guy letting you pick parts have expenses to cover.

Now if you want to drive over a scale empty, load up your truck, and drive over a scale full and pay double s**** for the load, that might be different. But most old junkyards don't have scales.

I'd say these people crushing old cars have never parted a car on ebay. there could easily still be $1,000.00 worth of parts on that 57 wagon. problem is you need to pay someone to dismantle them and another to list them.

I figure if you have enough old iron to part out you could make more than crushing and put a few people to work while you were at it.

the only junkyard sellers I see on ebay are dealing in late model stuff though.

  4. You're right, but it's not worth the h***le to deal with all the ***holes on eBay - and they're just about all ***holes, because they get all pissy and call me names when I tell them that No, I won't sell that part off that car, just like it says in big red letters in the listing. **** those people, I'd rather crush the stuff than help them.

Also, selling parts gets you involved in a business, you have to figure sales tax and income and all that ****. It's a lot easier to just sell a car whole and let the next guy deal with paying the sales tax on it.

Generally you see these big crush-outs when places close or the EPA gets after them, or someone's died and the kids want to dispose of the estate. There's no time or desire to part stuff out, no one cares about making $50 here or $100 there when they're going to sell all to someone who will come take the stuff away and hand them a big fat wad of cash.

Some people just don't get it. Lets crush this stuff so we can make room for another Nissan on the road. Makes me sick. The owner of the yard and the forklift driver should both have their *** kicked.

I would love to pay double s**** prices in wieght for parts!
It wouldn't be that costlty to have a scale large enough for parts, hell we are all mechanical here you could make a scale counter weighted by 25lb wieghts. Its kind of like buying bolts I only by them by the pound. But $30 for something that a s****per is going to give $3 for I guess s****ping it makes more sense NOT!!

The problem in this case though, is the event of an estate which there is never enough time to settle, but having a month of you pick parts for lets say double current s**** prices would be helpful on our and owners sides.

I suppose one solution would be for an organization, lets say us local car clubs banded together, to educate and help owners of yards organize a you pick parts for profit on their end and preservation on our end in such situations.

Maybe call it the Profit and Preservation Of Parts Operation.

How about a new reality show on the preservation channel. HaHa only in heaven for me I guess but at least I can dream.

Come on if "we" I mean all who care, talk to enough people we can spread the word to help prevent situations like this from happening and offer good advise for new and old owners of yards.

I am not here to build junk because that's all I can afford but unfortunately I can't afford better parts because it all got s****ped and the leftovers people want a fortune for because they can and because someone else payed a bunch.

And to all that don't care if anymore get crushed a big **** YOU to you.

You'd have to be real "Car Guy" to do that, I've done it myself with a few cars 1931 Oakland and a '50 Chevy fleetline. You need time and space, and be willing to cut things up into sellable sections. Firewall on that '50 Chevy, doors, rear clip, $32.00 for the heater switch was one item I thought sold well. SHIPPING is a big cost addition that not all bidders want to add to the bid price even if I pack stuff for free. Lots of that 1931 Oakland went to Australia.:)

Do you think your car was going to go in the crusher, but they figured it was already close enough? ;)
