Rumbler Del and I went to Don's again today. Took some pictures for you guys. Took them with my phone, sorry for the quality.
What's up with the grill? Is that some kind of a winter accessory? Looks more like a terraplane than ford.
Looks like a 36 Ford winterfront, a friend had one on a 3-window. Seems odd that a car that was never driven in winter would have a winterfront over the grille. Mick
P***ed that place in -99. Damn! i regret that i didn't visit that place.. Well i atleast saw it from the Greyhoundbus.
Love your dream engine. I went but only saw the race cars had a flight to make, so I never saw the car collection in the other building.
My father-in-law and I went last summer, we told the girls to come back and pick us up in 2 hours, had to call them back to give us another hour and a half. There is some awesome history in those buildings. I wish I could find my photos. My f-i-l is a Florida native of Tampa and grew up turning wrenches for his friends that were into stock car racing, he had some great stories. Trips to Garlit's shop, buying motors from Don himself, and hanging out with the Ruetimen family.
There in Jan 2002. The man himself was there. Boy, he has a nice compound. My wife and I talked with his mother for probably 90 minutes, she stood most of that time! Have spoken with Don at several events. Great American, he is. The Garlits Museum is a must see, put it on your life list.
My friend Rumbler Del has taken me over there so many times, I've lost count. Great inspiration for the build Im doing. Check it out..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=324514&showall=1
Definitely a "must see" if you've ever lifted a hood on a car. I used to go about every year before my inlaws p***ed away. It's been a few years and I see from the pictures that he has added a lot since. Any of you older guys (I'm official now after the 65th birthday a couple of weeks ago) should put it on your "bucket list". Frank
