I have recently decided to do a mild custom on my 1952 ford PU. It currentyl has a stock 6cyl. I would like to put a 289 or 302 in it. I was thinkning of trying to pick up a mustang II, so that I could steal the engine and front end. Does this sound like a good idea? Any suggestions?

[ QUOTE ] Please dont talk about stealing on this board. [/ QUOTE ] Touchy, touchy, dude. I don't think he was literally talking about "stealing" stuff as in diving under some poor slob's parked car and unbolting **** -- he did mention that he was going to pick up the car first. Unless maybe we're all getting so sensitive that the word "stealing" is soon going to be forbidden, even if it refers to ripping things off one's own car. Now, as for this '52 F1, I'd say go more traditional with it. Stuff like M-II suspension and 5.0 Ford engines are kind of considered "the enemy" to most of the people on this board. I don't have as much kneejerk hatred for such modern, untraditional mods as a lot of people here do, but IMHO that kind of stuff doesn't make for a very interesting car when you're done -- putting M-II front suspension pretty much just makes it drive like a new car. And then what's the point? A car that looks old and drives new isn't very far removed from a PT Cruiser (lame). I say you dig a little deeper, look harder at some alternatives, and find something truly distinct to do with it. How about hot-rodding the stock six? Think about the last time you saw that anywhere. Instant cool. Whatever way you choose, an F1 leaves you a ton of options. Parts are relatively plentiful and cheap (repro or used) so it's not like you have to retrofit just to keep it on the road. You can really do anything you want with those things. Good luck! Post some pics as you go. (p.s. I've got a '51 F1. Mine has a Flathead V8 and beam-axle front. It's a no-buck rod, but even if I many grand to sink into it, I'd still probably keep that combination. I'd just make it the craziest Flathead I could get!)
