[ QUOTE ] What was up with these two? [/ QUOTE ] Beats me. There was a 3rd one of those near where I was parked.
Man did I have fun this weekend.Over 300 cool cars in my little podunk town.It was good to see all the usual suspects and meet a few new ones( even some lurkers!).I know there were more hambers here that I didn't get to meet well maybe next time.I took three cameras and didn't get to take a single picture.
I heard he used a vintage 1952 hot melt glue gun to "braze" the grill into place.... now lets makes things better:
[ QUOTE ] What was up with these two? [/ QUOTE ] My first question would be not What was up with these two, but WHY? How do you get on the path to create that? There is not a magazine or books or any guidelines which would propel you in that direction. I'm all about doing whatever you like. Don't hate all ricers, goldchainers or whatever. But man.....
The kid with the caprice with the crosses on it was a very nice and respectful kid.It is his first car and at least he's proud of it.The stenciled crosses were a joke and he's working on the body work. The suff he had fixed was pretty good and straight. He asked me to stripe the decklid and seemed disappointed that he didn't have enough money so I cut the price in half and did one twice the size.He thanked me two or three times and even tipped me.Hopefully he will take what he's learning now and apply it to a cooler (or more acceptacle car )later when money comes his way.I've been in his situation too I think most of us have at one time or another.
I saw him drive out in it....young kid, and yeah it looked like he got grandmas old ride. had a pretty hot girl with him too...she was probably 15 though. I wont rag on him for the car, but I do wonder with a '63 cutoff year (or whatever it was), how stuff like that gets through the gate?
KKOA don't have a cutoff date. They even have a few "staff" people dedicated to "late model customs" like the later Caprices, 300's, etc. I did see the kid driving the one with the crosses, and I figgered the story was pretty close to what daddyo54 said. But the one closer to me was being driven (or at least parked) by an older dude, and somebody had spent way too much time & money on that one. (It was dark metallic gray.) But speaking of kids, that red fenderless a-sedan that somebody posted above was being driven by a dude that looked about 12 years old. His dad was driving the chopped 40 deluxe coupe that used to be Josh Bailey's car. I had p***ed them on 75 on the way up. Both were real cool to talk to. They are starting an a-coupe for the young-un, and seem to have their heads in the traditional mindset.
I Guess I should have entered my Tater, with super custom seude flames. Maybe then I would have won "Ladies Choice" : (Not Shown: the oil all over the front)
El Rusto, great pics. That purple Buick, talk about a car that looks like it's moving standing still.
Pretty cool of you to cut the kid some slack. I'll bet most of us had a POS as a first car and were proud ofit. I always try to encourage kids who are interested in cars. Good taste is something that takes time to develope. If they show some respect, they have some potential. Givem some encouragement.
