my new 1950 ford has no keys or lock cylinders. how many differnt keys are used is the ignition the same as doors? is the trunk the same as doors? is the glove box complety differnt?
I think doors same as ignition, trunk and glove same. Take out a door cylinder and the glovebox lock and take to the smith...I think '50 is still Hurd locks with the key number on the cylinder once you get it out.
Check around because I took lock cyclinder in to one well known shop an they charged me over a 100.00 dollars to clean an make a new key, it worked one time. then I found another shop that ordered them, and it was only 40 dollars. alot of different fords used the same locks.
i was looking for locks online. my question is which locks used the same key? is the ignition key differnt from doors and trunk? my car has ign. lock no key and drivers side lock no key. if i get 2 cylinders for doors matching is the ign a differnt key?
Just read it more closely and realized no cylinders...I can look that up, the interchange. Have the lock catalog for Fords. Ford offered them in kits of 3 and 2 cylinders, but of course those are rare now. Try to get a set with ignition switch from a parted out car and just get keys made...carrying 5 keys for your car gets old fast! There are old car lock experts who will rearrange pins to build mismatched cylinders into a set, but this gets expensive. Lots of '49-51 Ford people in HAMB cl***ifieds.
Ignition and doors are the same key. Trunk and glove box are the same key. Two keys total. The cars were delivered with two sets of keys.
