On the HAMB Tim Young goes by the handle "Irrational Metal Works," the name of his shop in Combine, Texas. When I was looking for a metal man to tidy up my 31 Model A coupe body a fellow rodder and HAMB member turned me on to Tim. It is an eight hour drive from Jonesboro, AR to Combine, TX. I suppose I could have found someone closer. But, in the context of a year or longer build, a couple of runs to Texas is ground clutter. And getting the job done right is important to me. So far Tim has replaced the wheel wells, patched the lower quarters (with patch panels that he made on his Pulmax), and detailed the firewall. His most recent effort is repairing the stress cracks under the quarter windows. This is a common problem in Model A coupes. To make the parch panels Tim made dies for his Pulmax and stamped them out. To my knowledge, these panels are not available in the after market. If you need some contact Tim. I'm sure he would be happy to stamp some out for you (shameless plug). The attached photos show the problem and the solution. Exceptional work. I am very pleased.
Beautifull. That is a hard part to make and lots of cars need one. You should definately talk him into bringing them to market. While he is at it, see if he would whip up the same panel for my 34.... Very nice, -Abone.
Thanks for the compliments guys! Mr. Overalls car is getting the full makeover. He started with a really good body, just has the usual model A cancer spots. I have repaired a couple of A beltlines before, and most are weldable, but this one had been repaired with br*** at one time and there was no way to fix it properly without totally replacing it. I do have the Pullmax dies, and I will offer the patch panels for a fair price! I also can reproduce any other beltine pieces. PM me for more info!
