so its a little sketchy on details, but this older guy down the road supposedly has a 60's era dodge that there were only 12 made in its particular body style. just wondering if anyone might know what it is. im gonna try to get some pictures of it and some more of his cars. he has around 250-300 cars sitting outside mostly, ranging from 30's to mid 70's, but VERY rarely does he sale one. thanks for any help
It could be the infamous turbine car, had an exhaust like the batmobile...But I don't know how many of those were made.
thats what i was thinking, maybe a option combo, but others say otherwise. anyways, im gonna try to get out there in the next week and get some shots of some of the cars, one of the best collections ive seen in a while, even though only 10-15 run lol
They made like 50 Turbine cars - Chrysler loaned them to people for use but never sold any - and they were a Chrysler, not a Dodge. A 1-of-12 Dodge would probably have to be a high zoot Hemi powered race car of some sort, that era. Bring more than s**** money with you.
I remember going to a car show a couple of years back. There supposedly were "Only 27 of these ever made". Thirty-four of them showed up for the show.
Turbines, 50 or was it 60 built, but all but 10 were s****ped by chrysler after testing. Leno has one I think. Chrysler 1958 with Bendix fuel injection. I think 13 were built. All were recalled by Chrysler corp to be fitted with 2x4 carbs due to injection issues. 12 came back, and one was still out there with injection. Dodges?? maybe a lightweight hemi?? or maybe just a pink 62 dart ...with light green interior
i though yall were being smart***es about the turbine car, and did a little research and saw there really was a turbine car lol. now i feel like the jack***. thanks for VERY interesting information, im anxious to get out there and see it for myself
1 of 12 would just about have to be an aluminum front end car. '63 or '64. Or maybe a Mod Top car from the later '60's. 1969 Mod Top Dart GT, Dart GTS, and Super Bee coupe production numbers were 14, 16, and 8 respectively.
I'm going to laugh my *** off when a pic of a "special ordered" **** brown wagon with piss yellow interior pops up. Yeah... it's 1 of 12 lol.
had to be an option combo. soesn't really mean alot sometimes. For instance, Me and pops got a mach 1 several years ago when we were restoring them, and we got this white one for parts. It had been a racecar at some point, and had a pretty hot 351, and all kinds of (shoddy) reinforcement at the shock towers, and all the other places those cars failed. We always checked the option code just in case we got somethin special (q codes, or r codes converted to 351's) and that car came out to be the only factory equipped 302 orange with red interior, no radio mach and whatever other undesirable option mach 1. yup, 1 of a kind, bu tafter what it had been through it wasn't worth restoring.... it sold for $3,200 running (barely) Keep us posted though, who knows, maybe he has some kind of old prototype, or concept car...
------------------------------ No. The car that sank car was the Ghia-built 1956 DeSoto "Norseman" show car. It was hemi-powered - not turbine powered. While being shipped by Ghia from Italy to Chrysler in New York, the Norseman was lost when the ship it was on, the luxury liner, "Andrea Dorea" sank in a collision off M***achusetts on July 26, 1956. The Chrysler Turbine cars were built by Ghia in Italy too, but they came much later - in 1963. Ghia built 55 of them, all of which made it safely to the U.S for display and testing. When the testing and display period was over, - because Chrysler had imported the cars into the U.S. under a Customs bond and would have been required to pay a huge duty on them if the cars remained in the U.S, they destroyed all but 9 of the 55 cars. mart ===============================
Could be something like a full sized car with a slant 6. Could be lucky and be a hemi car...............nah, that only happens to someone else, right? Never know until you check it out. And many people have made claims on things like that, one of only X made. But that don't take into consideration Canadian built, or export models. And they might be repeating some BS someone else told them. Galen Govier is the guy who can verify these things as accurately as possible. That said, in 1970, they made a Sport Fury GT, with the optional 440 6-pak motor. Last I knew, they had made so few, there was no accurate number out there.
How true! Ma Mopar or any other company would be more than happy to build a million of anything if someone would just step up to the desk and put down some money! "Rare" often means nobody wanted one built like THAT.
There are only three of the 1963 Chrysler Turbine cars in private hands - and Leno does have one, according to his web site. Chrysler also built other Turbine cars, based on production bodies, from 1954 to 1980. Chrysler was quite serious about producing a factory gas turbine car for the public; hence the nearly 30 years worth of R&D, and hands-on experience with an interested public. IF you could buy a Chrysler Turbine car, that would be a VERY expensive buy! One is in a museum in St. Louis, MO, and is brought out for various events. The guy even gives rides in it! Two others are part of the Chrysler Museum in Michigan. The rest do NOT have engines in them, of the nine total that were spared from the crusher. There are (I believe) three complete engine ***emblies that survive, as well. Far as rare NOT equalling desirable, I can verify this with my experience as an employee of a Buick dealership in 1978. A lady comes in and want to order a new '78 Riv with all the goodies...problem was, the color combo she wanted was RED exterior with GREEN leather interior, or vice versa. She had a store that dealt in Christmas decorations and was open ten months out of the year. She wanted something that would reflect her and her store. The sales manager spec'd the car for her and then called Buick directly to see if that could be built. They said "Sure! But, you'd better get 100% down, up front, then we'll schedule the build!" She gave the manager 100% up front, he ordered the car, and three weeks later, the car was delivered. Not a bad looking car, really...definitely "one of one", and she was a happy customer!
Patrick,We have a turbine car in the collection at the Detroit historical society. Its currently out on loan.We also have a display motor still on the show stand.I'll take a pic of it next time I'm down at collections. Dave
Mopar made lots of 1 of 7's and 1 0f 12'saround 1970 with the cudas and challengers and it was all color, crazy texture vinyl roof, radio delete, big engine- bucket seat-column shift weird stuff. There was a great museum in Hays, Kansas called 'Wheels&Spokes' that had alot of 1 of ? stuff like that. He had the Duster I concept and Fireball 500 car. Used to stop there on the way back from Sturgis/Colorado every summer. Few years back it was gone and a shopping center was there....very sad
Reminds me of a guy I met a while back. I was in a grocery store parking lot in my chopped '51 Cadillac. A guy who looked to be about 80 years old walks up and starts talking to me. Him - "So you like old cars huh?" Me - "Yessir" "Well I've got one I bet you'd really like to have." "Really? What is it" "Yup, I bought it new and it's been kept in the garage ever since - never even been rained on" "What is it?" "Yeah, it's like new. Only got **X miles on it." "What is it?" This went on for like ten minutes while he told me every option it had, how rare it was, how much those 'old cars' were worth. Then he finally told me. This 'dream car' was a '79 Chrysler New Yorker. I told him I bet it was really nice and that I hoped he enjoyed it.
My Caprice wagon is 1 of 1. No where in the world is there another with the driver's rear door caved in just-so. Looks awesome. Sure future collector car.
Some crazy old man at my mom's church talked to me forever about his cl***ic with a gl*** roof and red leather interior blah blah blah... when we got out to the parking lot, I was envisioning a sky top Ford by the way he was talking... Turned out to be a POS Roadmaster wagon with a sunroof. Basking in the sun in her dingy white, wood trim, red pleather and rusty glory...
This will make you ill, if you have any love at all for the '63 Turbine cars...be forewarned! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKumqcKuv1g Jay Leno's car: http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/photos/gallery#item=87081
