I heard that today (Oct 7) is designated as a national "Walk to School" day for kids. Taking this idea for hot rodders, we should establish a national "Drive Your Hot Rod Day". It can be drive it to work, to school, whatever your destination on that day. The important part is get your car out and drive it.

I drive my old cars everyday, and know that many of us drive our old cars as daily drivers, so this is not going to be a new thing for some. But if we get a lot of national participation, and have all the cell-phone talking, yelling at the kids, brain dead people see a lot more old cars on the road, we can get some good recognition for our p***ion.

This idea can even expand to any old cars, not just hot rods. Certainly would get a lot more participation if we include any car pre-1972. Muscle cars, 50's and 60's cl***ics, customs, hot rods, street rods, rat rods, restorations, lowriders, sports cars; I don't care what you want to include as long as it is an older car. Get people to drive their cars, that is what it is about. Get them out of the garage and on the road! Cars should be driven, not garage or trailer queens.

What are suggestions for when to do it and what should the rules be? I will let discussion see where it leads.

  2. I thought everyday that wasn't totally ****ty was 'Drive your Hot Rod' day?

It should be a sunday. Less idiots on the road, and those of us who work in or near the ghetto won't have to keep looking out the window every 10 minutes making sure our car is still there.

Also, thank god for walk to school day. Damn fat kids.

How about today, it's sitting in front of my office as we speak. Sunny and mid 60's outside. Perfect open car weather.

I agree with all of you, I drove my 37 Ford to work today in the pouring rain, and yesterday in nicer weather, and my 49 Ford COE the day before. My old cars are my daily drivers. My COE just made a 1100 mile trip this past weekend with about 5000 lbs of stuff between the truck and trailer full of parts and tools.

I want to get all the people that DON'T drive their old cars on a daily basis to do it at least one day. Some kids walk to school everyday. Today all kids are encouraged to walk. Same thing with my idea, get everyone to drive their old car one designated day. Use it as intended, for transportation. Not to a show, not to get out of the garage and wash it/charge up the battery/some other excuse.

Many of us do drive them every chance we get. But there are many others that don't. There are also a lot of people that talk about it and never do it, this gives them a reason to stop talking and do it.

Everyday possible, rain or shine, is drive my hot rod day.

Does me no good to sit and look at it parked in the garage.

Built it, drive it, break it, fix it, drive it, repeat.

i think "drive your hot rod" day should be on the same day as "earth" day so it cancels out what the others were trying to accomplish ahaha

My kids are on fall break, but there school is 15 miles away anyway since they done away with our local county schools,so I dont think walking would be an option.:(...:D
I guess we could take our kids to school in a Hot Rod on the same day we have (Drive your Hot Rod to work day);)

  15. Sure, "everyday" but I agree with ol'skool here on a specific day to be very much obvious and in the face of those who very much want our carbon footprint off the earth. I'm all for putting my lead foot IN THEIR FACE.

When the heck is Earth Day? Let's make it "Cover the Earth with Rods Day"
