New guy in Houston

Discussion in 'New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!' started by bjinx, Oct 7, 2009.

  1. Got hooked on hot rods at 10 yrs. old when we lived in Santa Clara, CA in the late 50's. Only lived there for 4 yrs. but that was all took.
Had several cars over the yrs. but never finished one till 2005. A 1970 chevy short wide pick-up I drive everyday. Got layed-off last Nov. had lots of time so I desided to finish a 1940 Ford pick-up I started 20 yrs. ago. Had purchased 90% of what was needed back then so it was just a matter of putting it together. Finished it a couple of weeks ago, have about 500 miles on it. The only problem so far was a little over heating but an electric fan took care of that. I look at it and still can not believe I finished it. Plan on selling it to fund my next project, a 1931 Model A 2dr sedan. Have grand kids now and need a vehicle with more room. Plan on getting the two boys involved (9 yrs and 5 yrs.) in the build they are both mechanically minded and love going to grandpa's shop.
Like 30's and 40's cars that are drivers. Do not like billet.
Have a friend who is a member so I desided to join.

good on you for involving the grandchildren. and weldome to the hamb.

i plan to be a hot rod influence on my (now infant) grandchildren. however, as my son in law is a Marine i have no idea where they will live when they are older. luckily, my daughter and the s-i-l are both gearheads so they probably won't need my help to get grease under their fingernails.

    Welcome from Kingwood

  29. Thanks for all the compliments on the truck. I sold it couple of weeks ago to a hamber in Austin who had been looking for a forty for a year. Glad it went to someone who realy wanted it, now I have funds to build the Model A.
I really like the hamb, first forum I have joined. Joined RRR but not really my thing, being a baby-boomer I relate to the people here more.
Started sanding and treating the rust on the Model A, have a goal to finish by this time next year. Have a 700R4 for it that needs rebuidling, anyone know a trans shop or person in the area thats good and honest? Also have 327 for it that needs machine work any referrals on that?
"Luckeys Lunch Run to Bryan, Colege Station" is this Sunday, 1/10/10, any one going?
Be glad when it gets back to 50 degrees, the shop is like a meat locker.

    Later keepum cruising
