Im installing a painless street rod kit. I can`t seperate the hazard and turn signal circut. All 4 lights flash no matter what I do.The Painless web site said to use 4 diodes coming out of the hazard switch, to each wire.

I`m using a unknown make 4 wire turn signal switch (3 wire 1 indicator)that came with the car. I took it apart to find out what wire did what. For a hazard switch I`m using a lighted toggle switch since the turn signal switch doesn`t have one.

For the diodes I combined one end of the 4 and attached it to the out put of the hazard and the other end 1 to each wire. Didn`t work. I have intergraded lights and the stop light switch stops the flashing.

Here`s what the Painless web site says:
The 918 is for if you had intergrated turn signals. Just cap the turn signal section 918 wire and store it away. You will need diodes on the wires off of the hazard switch. That is why when you turn the turn signals on all 4 are blinking. All the corners are tied in together on the hazard switch. Go to Radio shack and get 4 diodes part number 276-1661 and attatch them to the end of each wire with the strip facing away from the hazard switch. That should get you lined out on the hazards and the turn signals.

    Thanks for any help, Mark

  2. 4 diodes , (one way valve for current ) installed strip away from switch.
    as stated above.

Do you have a diagram of how it is wired, along with the turn signal switch type? Without such information presented, it is hard to guide you in the right direction!

Sounds NOT PAINLESS to me. The diode stuff sounds pretty MM to me. Supply the information and we can go from there.

I fixed the problem. I was trying to use the switches the previous owner collected for the car. I bought a new colum and headlight switch and reinstalled the diodes. The rears worked, but the front didn`t. After much investigation, I found the turn signal indicator wires were twisted together from when I was laying out the harness before starting.
