I have some 12" Buick drums but I can't find any 12" backing plates. Does any one make repop 12" backing plates. I can make just about anything work. Thanks, Don
Get with Vaphead here on the HAMB. He sells reproduction 12" Lincoln backing plates with 2" shoes that work with 37-48 Ford spindles and Buick aluminum drums. You will also need 46-48 Ford front hubs. Bob Wilson (Wilson Welding and Machine) sells his own Lincoln backing plates along with an aluminum backing plate that matches the Buick aluminum drums. He can also do the machine work needed to mount Buick drums to Ford hubs and clearance the drums for use with Ford and Lincoln backing plates. This all ***umes you have Buick aluminum drums and want to run them on a hot rod with a traditional Ford based front suspension.
Thanks for the tips. It's all about the mtg offsets so everything lines up or can be adapted to line up. The (2) backing plates that I have are Delco Moraine #5463783L (as best I can read it) but that's all I have. If I can start with something from a known application, I can find all of the rest of the stuff necessary to build up the whole ***y. Are all Buick drums 12"? Don
Not "all" Buick drums are 12", but the '59-aprox'70 - '71 full size are. Different fin count throughout the years, but they seem to interchange. I have never seen a "end date" for these drums, but I have pulled them off cars as late as '71. Hope that helps.
