I used to work for a towing and transport company. Your vehichle on the truck was always enough of a deposit for us. On the extremely rare chance that somebody didn't pay we'd just store the car until they did of file with the DMV for a ***le similar to a mechanics lien. In the two years I was with the company this happened exactly zero times. Huge deposits and prepayment are a warning sign for sure.

I looked at his profile, looks like he restores cars. Model A's. I get the impression he hauls customer cars before and after restoration. I'm sure he will reply to it himself though. Had some neat stuff on his site. *Edit added: BTW, his racing roadster is pretty dang cool.
First, if you paid with a credit card, call and dispute the charge. Second, do not release the car to anyone affiliated with this company. You may never see the car again... Third, Call the state Attorney General and file a complaint. This becomes a Federal issue since it deals with commerce across state lines. .
He does need to contact the AG but I don't know how much good it will do. I have contacted them in NY several times about the random collection agency calls I get and they really don't care one bit about doing much of anything. Just so you know, these collection agencies call cells phone numbers and tell you "I am such and such and I am calling about your account and it is very important you call me" but the return numbers usually are not good and the numbers they call from can't be called back (they are not 800's but I can't remember off the top of my head what they are). BTW, if any of you ever get a call from one do not give them any info. A real collector has your info so ask them to give you the last four of you SS...they will tell you four numbers and it won't be yours. Tell them they have the wrong person and ask them what address they are trying to reach. They will probably give you a made up address in another city in your state. Tell them that you are not the person they are trying to reach and to stop calling you and ask them where to send a stop letter to. They usually hang up at that point. Most of these guys are operating out of New York. They got busted in NY but NY went easy on them with a warning and now they concentrate outside of the state. You can verify what I am saying on the internet real quick and that is why I have no hope that you will get anything out of the AG in New York. Sorry New Yorkers, love ya guys and your state but your gov. is broken like the rest of us. You will do much better getting a instate lawyer. Wow - an 'armchair attorney' eh? It is beneficial to the community as a whole by warning others not to do business with these seemingly dubious characters - how difficult is that to understand? A letter demanding a full refund from an attorney licensed in the state in which these low lifes operate should do the trick. These kind of people use this M.O. because most are too apathetic to take them on - my $0.02.
Just went through the same thing with another shipping co. lying sacks of ****!!!!!!!!!! what they do is book every thing they can in between... so if there is a call to pick up a car and driver has room your going to wait!!!!!!!!
I know it's a little late, but next time contact Racinman Rick @ ShowTime Transport here on the HAMB-O-Dex. He hauled a car for me and was prompt, careful, courteous and fair with his prices. He's not a big-time operator, but he gets the job done. I'd recommend him without hesitation.
If the company is out of N.Y. call 311 the dept of consumer affairs tell them your story , also do you have a contract? If so and they dont provide the sevices stated and you have to pay someone else to do it they are responsible for the differnce. Brian
Not to be a smart *** but maybe you should have done the Yahoo search first. It cost $0, it's a starting point. I Google a company every time I'm about to do on line business with them just to get an idea of what they're like. I also Google private user names for people on different internet sites before doing business with a person that is a distance from me. I've found most times people use the same user names for all or most of their internet activities. I've been able to find phone numbers and addresses even if the person doesn't have them listed on the current site I am on. A lot of car guys post on local newspaper sites or club web sites that list their information.
Contact YOUR State Attorney Office , every state has one and works for you , Joe citizens.......... They are the one's who should protect you in a case like this... And like Mr rustynewyorker said. Hope it was a credit card ,then you can dispute it....
I'm guessing you didnt take the time to read how they treated him. I dont know of anyone that will just put up bad info on companies for fun. This guy got screwed and he is warning a community of like minded folks.
I've had quite a few cars shipped to me and even more shipped out over the last few years. You get exactly what you pay for. Look through Hemmings and pick a large well established company, you will pay about twice what a broker will charge but if it's a car you care about it's worth it. I have sold cars on that auction site and have seen the shippers that they recommend, they're usually eastern European, don't speak much english and smell worse that my old dog. DAS is the name of that place and I wouldn't let them haul **** to a toilet. Don't try to save a few bucks, it will cost you more in the end. JMO
I take it you gave your bank account information? I quit paypal when they wanted mine. I would under no cir***stances give my bank account info to anyone!!
Jessefelix- The company has not delivered on its promise and you have done more than enough on your part to try and make sure it was resolved. The company is definitely in the wrong. The absolute best thing you can do is contact your bank/credit card company immediately and report fraud. This is a damn near sure fire way to get your money back and the account changed so they cannot continue to charge you if they were to do such a thing. Good luck.
libel for written such as this........slander for spoken......i dont see him having any trouble over posting he's not happy with a company, its done all the time. id be pissed too, if my car was still sittin, and id welcome them to come sue me, so i could beat the dollars out of them lol. usually these types of jack offs are not gonna pursue any action against their customers, as they got more to loose skull
Even if I lost my deposit, they would not touch my car. what if they damage it, destroy, what would be your recourse? I would use a smaller out fit like ben d ,just because he is so well known here. Know who you are dealing with.
I have contacted my bank, told them the situation and i was told that they are going to investigate whats going on. The bank is not able to reverse the charge and can not close my account until after the investigation. I found the company in the yellow pages actually, i dont have the internet at home. i use the works computer when i can. I wish i would have waited and done some research. I dont think what i did was slander, i think its more of a bad review. If you go onto other sites you see people writing all kinds of bad things in their review. This is my situation that i have had happen to me and i am putting it out their so it does not happen to any of you!
Thanks for all the props guys. I get to work for a good bunch of people. BTW-All the Hamb Haulers are listed in the Hamb-O'dex forum. These are the only folks I deal with, and I will only recommend people that I have personally met and trust. None of us are bigger than 3 car at a time haulers, we're all car people and we're all owner/operators. I personally only haul single cars, haul open trailer and do ALL the driving and ALL the scheduling myself. My wife updates me of anything else while I'm traveling, and 100% of my hauling either comes from the Hamb or referrals from such. I will haul parts as well, but for obvious reasons only commit to parts once I have a trip pretty well organized. SO, if you want a hauler that you can talk to directly, will be honest with you from the start and will do everything in their power to make sure you have a pleasant experience give one of us shot. While I'm at it, let me say THANK YOU to all you folks that have trusted us with your cars over the years. Alot of you are now good friends and some I consider family and all of this is in some part because of the Hamb.

If he's going your way, BenD is the only way to fly. In my dealing with freight companies (my day job used to be construction management), dedicated load and LTL service, it amazes me that anything gets anywhere. The incompetence and "don't give a ****" at***udes I've observed in the trucking industry are truly breathtaking. The drivers are almost always confused/disinterested, the dispatchers are rude and clueless, and the salesmen seem to be habitual liars. Don't even get me started on the billing/accounting folks. I had a Model A body crated and shipped LTL from MN. They took two weeks longer than they said they would, and tried to double charge me. I got a quote up front, paid before pickup, and then they tried to bill me for nearly the entire amount again, because the sub they had pick it up overcharged them. At the end of the deal, I was just thankful that the thing wasn't speared through the side by a forktruck or mashed flat or something equally icky. Like I said, if you can work it out with his routes, use BenD. If not, there are others in the HAMB-O-Dex that will do you right as well. I will never again deal with a common carrier to move a car I care anything at all about.

Oh, and talk to BenD on here, or contact Tyler Sheff at fairpricedshipping.com. I've shipped rear ends, engines, transmissions, etc. through his contacts, and EVERY time was a good experience.
anybody thought of arranging a HAMB relay to help this guy out? it sounds like he's been really screwed over and could use a hand.
