Anyone can have a stock bodied 52 chev. From where I sit, only one guy has this wild sheet metal bonanza. Very few shivvys catch my eye, but I'd like to see this one up close. I well remember some of the crap that 'so-called-customizers' were turning out in the 60's and this has alot more talent and perseverance than some of those bondo filled pos.
Now, get back to work and show some more pics.

As you are refining this car over the winter, I too think you should work on the front overhang a little bit.Maybe bringing the end of the bumper all the way back to the wheel well might trick the eye into seeing less of a overhang...
that is the only thing that throws me off when just glancing at the profile of the car.

I to think you should be commended for taking on a big project. And seeing it through.

I'm glad to see after all the bashing about what you did wrong. And There was little or no advise about How or what would of been the proper way of doing it.

Finally some Positive advice that will help this young man finish a really cool project.

HAMB DRAGS I Be lookin for ya.

This is the cover of the Jan '02 Street Rodder. Pat Keating reportedly put 3700 hours into the metalwork on this '48 Chevrolet coupe. It was shortened, channeled, chopped, cowl moved rearward (b pilllars to match for door fit), windsheild laid back, front fenders made from 18-gauge, and sectioned too!

    keep on man...

only thing i'm not a fan of it the roof dip in the middle (dan gurney mod?,lol) anyway, the nay sayers can kiss your ass, cuz that's a handfull of a project!

people saying "the guy shoulda done more research, learned more technique, asked more experts, posted more questions" can just kiss my ass, too. How many people jump straight into a big build like this with only their own wits to aid them. you show a lot of "go get 'em" and it runs, drives, steers, stops, and looks a ton better than the original pile you brought home. It sits on a modern chassis that Napa can keep alive for another 80 years, and you built it your self!

You've got fuckin stainless steel balls man! Absolutely fearless. In this day and age with the internet and so many opinions it's easy to over plan things, so I have a lot of respect for anyone who can make things happen.

I gotta be honest, when I started on the thread, I thought it was going to be a real abortion. But the proportions are interesting, and it's really grown on me by the time I got to the end. It doesn't look GM or Ford or Chrysler, it's became it's own car. It's not perfect, but you're young and i'm sure in 10 yrs you'll be building showcars.

You're obviously not afraid of a welder, i'd consider biting the bullet and cut the top up and get her dead perfect. As a builder you've proven that you're quite the big picture kinda guy, but I think you'll make a real name for yourself if you can prove that you can get them dead on the money straight. Just my armchair expert opinion. Excellent work!

Wait ... you're upset about what he did to a falling-apart '52 sedan that nobody else wanted, but you aren't even the least bit upset about what he did to the '83?

    :p

I think the car has possibilities. It will likely never please everybody here, but I give the guy credit for taking two very different cars and finding a way to merge them into one, drivable vehicle that looks different than anything else on the road.

As for the windshield, I have to believe that there is was some sort of car from the '50s or '60s that has a windshield wide enough and with contours close enough that the metal around the windshield could be modified to fit a cut-down version of it without the car looking hideous afterward.

Worst case scenario, use two short end pieces from a 52 windshield (like the last few inches just to get the ends in right), and then a single big center piece cut from something with a general curve that matches the remaining center portion of the opening well enough that the metal work to make it fit wouldn't be too hard. And that center piece might come from almost anything. Just gotta look.

    :)
