I have a pair and one has a crack in it. Are these a straight die cast aluminum, or some alloy with zinc in it?

If it isn't on a structural part,JB weld it from underneath. Its not like there is any pressure under there so to speak.Or..I bought an aluminum alloy rod at a car show once that you use with a propane torch to repair aluminum.I welded some aluminum door hinges on a Karmann Ghia and it worked well.It doesn't get so hot that it warps with the propane. There is usually someone selling these at every car show.
But to your question...uhh...I donno.I think everything is alloyed to some extent.

How many fins are on it, 7 or 9?
Some types are worth some $$$

They're just a set of later 7 fin covers. I have a tig welder and I can toss them in the oven to bake out the oil in the castings. I just figured I ask if they're just aluminum (no zink) before I strike and arc and watch them melt away.

Personally, I'd rather fix the part I have than simply shell out cash for a replacement part.

Not real sure what their makeup really is, but I tried to TIG an original years ago and it was impossible. Made it worse than it was and carried to welding shop that specialized in fixing this type of thing and he was unsuccessful too. He told me it was too porous and he has welded all kinds of cast metals including aluminum. I bought another set, still pretty cheap today. Now the 9-fin ones must be made from some kind of gold looking at the prices. Steven.
