How do register a model a coupe if you put a new 2x4 frame under it in the state of Ct.? I have the original frame so do I use the front section with the number since it is vin verified? Kinda lost because Its time to do frame work to get my project going. i have no ***le but only a bill of sale and a vin verification thru a police officer.
What? VIN verification by police? Never heard that before in CT. You get VIN verified at DMV (bad idea on a rod) or, an approved repair shop that is registered with DMV for that. No ***le needed, just a bill of sale. But you need proof of insurance. On swapping a chunk of frame with the number....here in public, that is not allowed
I had the same question.A friend of mine just built a 32 Ford frame, and he stamped the original numbers on the new frame in the same location as the original numbers, and had no problem.I will be doing same thing.Hopefully I will get the same result.Good Luck
just don't go to DMV with a hotrod. Find a local garage that does VINs...ask the local rod crowd which one is friendly. By rights they should be just checking the VIN and nothing else...but.. Not too many years ago, we all needed to go through inspection on any car over 10 yrs old. There is no way a lot of todays builds would p*** back then. I like the new system
So, at some point in time the original frame gets sold, it is the REAL FORD frame, what happens when that comes up for registration?
That's wild...I never heard of that. Since there is no safety inspection now, we can register a basket case "if" we get a VIN check, and IF we show insurance. The Antique car insurers want full pics of the car... I need to find out which Antique Car Insurance company will accept pics of unfinished cars/project cars. I'd really like to get a few of mine insured....then VIN'ed and registered just in case they ever decide to start inspections on new reg's again. anybody know which Company will take project cars??
I brought my '60 F100 down the road to get the VIN verified at the DMV. It was so messed up that they didn't check ANYTHING... not the lights, the horn, blinkers...NOTHING. It was so wild. It's a good thing, too because the horn didn't work at the time.
I wouldn't bring it to DMV. You can have it verified by a cop or by a registered repair facility. I don't know if that is all repair shops, but I know the shops that do smog checks can do it. Todd
