Am thinking about putting disc brakes on my 40 Ford coupe. ECI makes a kit with a Chevy bolt pattern and a Ford 4 1/2 in. bolt pattern. Plus they make a set with a 5 1/2 in bolt pattern. QUESTION: Will putting any of these kits on my 40 increase the wheel mounting distance to wheel mounting distance measurement? I am worried about wheels hitting the fenders as my car sits real low. Thanks.
it's been my experience that disc brake kits do increase the total width over the stock `40 drum brakes..how much depends on what kit. the only way to know for sure how much would be to give them a call and ask
I can't remember the exact dimensions anymore, but I think the small Ford pattern kits will be about an inch wider than the Chevy pattern kits and is about 2" wider than a set of '56 F-100 drums. I never tried the 5-1/2" kit so I don't know about that. Beyond that, the track width is going to depend on your axle, too. 36-3 - I see that Grain Belt sign is for sale now with some riverfront property ;-)
