Kinda sorta O/T. but I am looking for ideas for X-mas gifts. What are some of your favorite Hot Rod and Custom Car books? I know I have the "The Birth of Hot Rodding" as one of the ideas but I am interested in hearing what some of your favorites are.

    Thanks all

Uh nope it is Rick Dore's 1949 Caddy Fastback. The book does have some of Winfield's stuff though.. It was published by Motor Books International and is titled "Classic Customs and Lead Sleds.'

There was one Ryan recomended a while back, "Diggers, Alters, Gassers and Funny Cars" or something like that, I bought it and its very good. Not hotrod or custom, but I saw a "50 years of Formula One" book at my friends house. It is badass, lots of good vintage photos, as well as the new stuff.

"MUROC: WHEN THE HOT RODS RAN MAY 15, 1938"--A wonderful picture book filled with primitive hot rods of all sorts. Actually the photos shot for a Life Magazine article that was never run.
Carroll Smith's "Nuts, Bolts, and Plumbing".

Katz...and the rest of you: "Bangin' Gears & Bustin' Heads"...written by a HAMBer...(that'd be ME!!!)...don't get much better than that. All about the car craziness of the 1960's...it even has vintage B & W pix in it on a total of 208 pages.

$21.00 including shipping AND an autograph...R.A. Jetter, PO Box 440042, Aurora ColoRODo 80044

  17. There is one that I would love to find an original of:"Ford:The Dust and the Glory" by Leo Levine. It chronicles the Ford Motor Company from beginning to end and is about 700 pages. It was re-issued in two volumes awhile back and even those run about a hundred bucks. An original about 3 times that. Some great stuff on Ford's racing days.If anyone knows where I could find a copy,I would be willing to trade some SERIOUS striping for it.
