He's probably talking about the front axle mounted suicide style; single transverse spring with hairpins. Done right, this setup looks real good; done wrong, and you find out why they're called suicide. In high school, there was a fella that had a 64-65 Chevelle 300 2 door sedan. Done up with a suicide front end, it looked good, and was done by a shop specializing in drag cars. He had to hit the brakes hard one day in the parking lot, and the whole front end collapsed. So, build it sturdy. Butch/56sedandelivery.

My dad had one in a 55 AWB g***er back in the day. I`ve seen a few pictures of them, but never laid eyes on an actual car with one.

That's the way they should be....up in the air with junk (to most people) under it.

I am not disagreeing with you, a Ford axle with transverse spring does look kool.

In the 70's I built my 48 Coupe (picture) and used a 55 Chevy truck 1/2 ton axle, although it is a parallel spring, all the tie rods/drag links/and steering would fit perfectly with you 55 Chev. It handled great both on the street and strip and I could pull both tires off the ground when using slicks...........................Just a thought.

    IMHO
