Did ya ever hire your car for a wedding

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Nov 2, 2004.

  1. I had a lady stop me today and ask me to take a couple from the church to the reception in the 32 mor-door and what would I charge?

I did this for my daughter when she got married and a good friends daughter,,,,,but this is a total stranger,,,

So, I told her I would check with a few of my friends and get back to her.

    Whatcha think?

  2. Call a limousine service and see what they would charge for the same gig. Go from there. The only time I did it was for a good friend, so it was free.

I just hooked a freind of mine up here on this very thing last weekend. He drove the bride and groom from the church to the reception and posed for a few pictures with them and the car. It took less than an hour. He made $150. Not sure if they tipped him on top of that. He's gonna get some more deals out of that too.

  4. Yeah, same here. I let my kid use my 50 chevy sedan delivery to go from the church to the reception and then I hauled all the gifts with the delivery. No charge because I'm a helluva guy.
Oh yeah, and he's my son.

Be sure to check your insurance.

Here in Sweden if you let out your car, you have to have a special insurance.
But if you dont charge its ok.
Then they can give you a gift afterwards :).

You can make good money with it. I've done weddings. There are other thing like prom that are good. $50 to $100 an hour easily. 4 door cars are better for this type of job. I told the wife the car made me the money so the car gets it.

I would do it in a heartbeat, and plan on doing so as soon as Big Olds gets painted. I also plan on renting him out for commericals, promtions and stuff. I know two people who have businesses that look for cars for just this type of thing.

A good buddy of mine "rented" his 50 Ford convert for an oil change commerical. The Contours sang the jingle standing inside his custom dressed in tuxs. He was paid big dollars for the use of his car for half a day and the car was never moved from the grassy mound it was parked on outside of the business. It was a fun day. Not a bad way to make some extra cash.

i have a buddy in south texas that does alot of weddings and charges 75.00 to 150.00.
look at it as a way to pay insurance and tags for the year.

Mr 42 is dead on correct! The $150 might seem like big bucks, but get in an accident and watch your insurance company refuse to pay, since your car became a "business" and guess what? - you ain't covered !! Then everything you own, house, car, etc., gets sold to pay off the claim against you. IMHO, you'd be taking a hell of a chance.

if i had the time i would do it, but i wouldnt charge. $100 or $150 would be spent in no time and you would probly make their day if you offered it for free. sounds like it could be a fun time..

I have used the 62 in three weddings, and would do it any time any one asks.
I have never charged and will not charge any one for this service.
The first, i was asked for a charge and said no.
I never even recieved a thank you. I was told there would be an envelope in the mail with my name on it, Never happened.
the next two times, i told the people, no charge, but received pictures of the bride and groom each event with over two hundred dollars each event.

I never do it for money, but the experiences.
If you rent your car, you had better look at your insurance policy.
Bad things can happen to good people.
The risk factor is why I never charge.
I am merely driving friends around, granted, friends I may not have met before that special night.

If you don't charge, make sure you have an invite to at least the pre reception party. Usually lots of good food and drinks before the sit down part. [IMG]
