So I’m at my local car show (the Rod Run in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:smarttags" /><st1:place><st1:City>Temecula</st1:City>, <st1:State>CA</st1:State></st1:place>) and at about <st1:time Hour="12" Minute="0">noon</st1:time> my wife comes to join me with my daughter. As she gets beside me and my car, where I have a chair, the owner of a 53’ chevy pickup parked behind me gives me the stink eye. So of course I stare at him wanting to know what his deal is. He says “I get real nervous when there are strollers near my car.” Mind you his truck is cherry red and looks like he has a bed full of wax to keep his reflection showing in the paint. That automatically pisses me off. Does this guy really think that I would let my daughter’s stroller ram into his truck? We were a good 4 feet from his truck and my car and he had to make a comment. In my mind I’m thinking what an ***. So I ask him do you even drive that thing? He says “oh yeah for 6 years I’ve been driving it and I put 6,500 miles on it.” Now easy math…to me that means he doesn’t drive it except to shows to show off his polish and at***ude. Do people really get that sketchy or was this guy unusually disturbed. My idea of a show is hanging out with like-minded people enjoying each others cars (or trucks) and having a good time. This is the first time anybody gave me any at***ude and I am glad my wife was there because I probably would have laid him out over his glossy truck. Do you guys get that sketchy about your stuff too? I can appreciate a nice paint job but for me the hobby is more than that. Wondering if anyone else has had bad show experiences to share? Is everyone that paranoid about their cars?

When you have a car that has a lot of money in the paint, or a one off paint job that you'd never match you'd be thinking the same thing. I don't know how your car looks, but put the shoe on the other foot. I'm not saying he's in the right, he could've been a little friendlier first!!

Had tha same exact thing happen to me at Old Los Alamos days......they have a carshow in the street totally surrounded by vendors and antique stores...Some guy had a barn opened up with a few nice rides inside......Guy sees me roll up with my daughter in a stroller and says you better be real careful with that thing....
****er! I told him I knew my way around Fake *** show cars and if he didn't want anyone breathing on his Chrome he should close the doors.
Then when i walked around and left the guy and his crew of old farts looked at me funny.
I just said out loud to my friends nothing worth looking at in here and we left.

    On the other hand...
I've had to shoo people off my cars a couple of times but they were actually on it. You can't take an expensive car to a show and just walk away. If you do then your an idiot.
I just watch people when i think they aren't paying attention around a car but I don't give them **** unless they actually do something.
Lucky for me you can't easily scratch the dents and rust off my car :)

I completely understand the fear of damage to his pride and joy and the cost involved. I was sitting in front of my car that was part of the same show. I guess I forgot to mention that he came late to the show so he parked in a spot that was marked "No parking" to begin with. I just knew I would never damage someone elses stuff...I guess not everyone is as caring and he may have had something happen in the past. Who knows. It just got me boiling pissed.

Sounds to me that you are the one w/ at***ude. It's called respect.
I have alot of money in my paint & even been known to carry wax products to shows.
Strollers make me nervous as well. Respect his ride & he will respect yours.

Diplomacy, courtesy and manners are sadly lost to most, it seems few people want to use charm and manners in their communication with others of their species.

No offense man. But I would much rather see a thread on the build of your car, or even pictures of it would be good. there is allready too much drama, and it is getting a little boring.

AdrainS, I see you are new to the HAMB,mabey you are new to car shows too. What you describe in the truck person is the kinda guy you will find at shows somtimes. That dude is there ONLY for the trophy. Here in Indiana we call 'em trophy *****s. They act ****ty to every one and are pissed when they don't get the accolades for their show car that they believe they deserve. Its just one big compe***ion for that kind. Happily they are few and the regular guy who likes to talk cars and act friendly are many. Ignore the ***hat and have fun at those events. Normal Norman

The way I look at it is that at car shows there are always people walking around your car. If you are that scared to have something happen to your car just bring pitcures of it and leave it at home. We were taught to respect someone elses car and not to touch it and watch whats going on around us. If it sounds like im being an a-hole. Sorry.
