After 5 weeks in So Cal... Back in Europe. PICS, PICS, PICS!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 'Flyin' Dutchman', Nov 3, 2004.

  1. Had a great time over there again!! The first time I ever saw rain in LA too, haha!
I met a lot of people and went to some great places!

Here's some pics and some stories...

Mad Fab Evel picked me up at the LA airport after travelling for almost 24 hours!!!!

The day after that I met my buddy Robert (also from Holland) and we went to the CHRR, but made a quick stop at the Garage Company in Marina Del Ray... Where I discovered Brian Setzer's Pre Unit, built by Scott Craig.

Workshop... found a pretty cool peanut tank here..

Anyone need a vintage helmet... Too bad, not for sale!

Here's some stuff from the Hot Rod Reunion..

Some startiingline pics... It was great to have a press pass!!

SeldomeScene's artwork on the back of his car..

Somehow I really like this pic...

Nitroman... Haha!! That was a good laugh..!

Became good friends with deron from the Coppers... This guy is 37 and still skates empty pools!! Ruler!!

The Incredible Hulk was there too!! He grew a moustache!

Me and greg sharp from the NHRA... He arranged the press pass for me. That was just great.. The paper I'm holding has an article in it about me and my buddy Robert coming all the way from Europe to visit the CHRR etc. etc... I'll put it up on our website..

Evel... Waiting for something cool to happen, and being very tired. he cam up to Baco with Aaron Minden and they broke down on the way... They had been wrenching all night at Sqeak's and after that couldn't find our hotel room, so they slept outside on the floor...

Somethin' cool happens piero!!! Our favourite of the night! The Winged Express kicks ass!!

I shot a ton pretty cool pics after the Cacklefest!

On the way to El Mirage on Sunday morning, with Aaron's truck..

Let's see if Piero can clean windows as good as he produces dvd's!!

This could be taken right out of the movie "On any Sunday"..! [IMG]

Diana Branch with her very nice '32 Sedan..

    Cool bikes there too...

Back in LA... Hi piero... Better get that thing finished, so we can take that out for a ride instead of my rental shitbox!! BobBleed... Maybe it's better if you fly out to LA and give him some help!! [IMG]

We went to Jimmy White's shop to film for Mad Fabricators part 2...

That's Jimmy and Grant... and the Blue bear underneath that bitchin' '32!!! I was lucky to see it run at the Sinners party later on..

Piero filming... Or whatever... Cool shirt by the way.. When do I get mine..? [IMG]

Piero told me I'm gonna be the THEM president for Europe and we'll start out with a bike chapter overhere..

Me and Jimmy in the RPU... That thing hauls some serious ass!!

    More filming..

You guys are gonna freak out when you're gonna see Mad Fab 2...

One of the cooler cars at the Twilight Cruise at the NHRA Museum..

HAMB friend ElmoRodge was there too!! You rock Wayne!! Thanks for supporting us!

Hey..! It's that car again!! Where did I see this before..?

My buddy Wes from Four Aces Cycle Supply in San Fernando took me over to old famous racer, Mike Parti's house in North Hollywood...

    I was lost for words...

Nice project goin' on at Chica Cycles...

Always cool stuff at Bob's Big Boy in Burbank...

This very nice '65 showed up with four hot chicks in it!!!! ONLY IN HOLLYWOOD MAN, ONLY IN HOLLYWOOD!!!

At the Donut Derelicts in Huntington Beach...

Later on we went by Kill City Choppers, owned by Steg the Axeman... We met this guy at Bob's and he's one of the coolest guys I met on my trip... He has been Indian Larry's right hand for about 13 years back in NY City... He couldn't stop telling good stories about the past... A defenite ruler!

After that we went to Vegas... And then on the way to Bonneville... AND THAT'S WHEN DISASTER STRUCK!!! MY DIGITAL SLR CAMERA AND MY DIGITAL VIDEO CAMERA GOT STOLEN BY SOME FUCKIN' JUNKIE!!!! FROM THE GODDAMN HOTELROOM!!! THERE GOES MY FOOTAGE FROM THE CACKLEFEST AND THE WINGED EXPRESS!!!

You know how it feels when someone fucks your 5 week holiday up in 10 seconds!! I had to change my whole schedule and couldn't shoot pics for 2 1/2 weeks... luckily I got a new 20D from the insurance money I'll get from my old camera... And my pics were saved on a portable harddrive thet the fucker didn't take.... I hope he burns in hell!! Motherfucker...
By the way... Second time all my shit gets stolen... Same thing happend to me in England 5 years ago... they even took my buddies F1 camera...!

Arriving in B'ville was great though...

They were filming for that movie "World's fastest Indian", which you probably all read about... it was a blast..

If I would've had my SLR camera, I would've probably shot more than a 1000 pics... Now I had to work with this shitty small thing and some of my pics got lost when saving 'em at Piero's computer somehow... Ah well, too bad...

I had some cool pics from Jeff decker's Crocker, the ride in Vern Tardel's roadsteretc... They're gone... can't figure out where they went...

Mike Bishop's truck and Jeff Decker's '32... it was great to meet these guys!!

Jeff Decker gave me a bunch of shirts and a dvd... After seeing that dvd I was totally blown away! He is a mad fabricator!! My new hero!!

We also checked out the lowrider show in Vegas... There was a lot off overdone shit, but some guys know how to build some very cool stuff!

Back in LA, I went to the pomona swaps, which totally rained out... So I went by the NHRA museum to take a look at the Edelbrock exhibition..

Back in the Mad Fab lab....

Later on I went to the vintage bike show in Del Mar, where I met with some members of the No Gooders MC...

Goose with his bitchin' Pre Unit..

And Lucky with his Trump... Car alarms went off when they took off..!! [IMG]

    Nice stuff inside..

    Gear Grinders landspeed bike...

WTF is this... Oh yeah.. I went by the Hustler later that day! [IMG]

Jimmy Shine's project at So Cal...

I went by Barris with Piero... That was bitchin'! Checkin'out the Batmobile!

We also went to the Primer Nationals.. that was a super good time! Met Snacky and Donnie there!

    The Snackmobile...

Looks like Dean is getting rich from his DicE magazine... No Isaak... You ain't gettin' any of that $$$$!!

Rockabilly Jay's Panhead won in the bobber class...

Nelson invited me for a party from the Sinners, so later that night I went to the party at Rico's shop in Pomona..

    Kutty's bike...

    Dustin's Trump...

    Cole's blue bike...

    Cole's Chev...

The day after I went to the Cycle swaps in Long Beach and bought some cool shit off John Candy, or however they call him..

    Nice score huh...

I also got two very nice spoolhubs... Good product for a future project...
You guys go crazy when you hear what kinds of stuff i all shipped home! Some of the better things are 7 peanut tanks, Miller welding helmet (hard to get where I live), Craftsman wrenches, lots of books and mags, tons of Triumph parts, Joe Hunt parts, a very cool white stitched seat, gripsets, etc, etc...

I spotted this Trump at the swapmeet at Four Aces Cycle last Sunday... Some very nice fabrication on this thing!

    Look at the rear brake...

Sporty being build at Foundation Chopper is Huntington Beach... Love that Harpoon paintjob!!

I accidently ran into a skateshop in Torrance which was actually more like a fuckin' museum... I have a lot more pics like this one... Lotsa memories came back up!!

Somehow I ended up at a motorcycle shop in San Pedro called Century Cycle, owned by this woman Cindy Rutherford... She has tons of Britisch motorcycle parts and also showed me a secret stash with Von Dutch stuff she had, which contained a lot of letters, drawings and even a knife made by him!! She told me a lot of crazy old stories and apperently she has been real good friends with Von Dutch... Chopper Dave told me she is nuts and she pretty much is in my eyes!! haha!

    40's scooter...

    Helmet by painted Kenneth Howard...

Von Dutches fake name... J.L. Bachs... Joe Lumchbox that is...

    Some drawings...

    The knife...

Last weekend I went to the drags with my buddy Scott from Vegas... That was a total blast too!! I had never seen the funnycars and top fuelers run before... it was nuts!!

That's about it... And although my shit got stolen and couldn't really do everything I wanted to do because of that, I had a super good time...
I hate flying, especially all the way to LA, but I can't wait to go on my next trip already!!

And uh, Piero... Made any plans for the Euro issue of Mad Fab..? You're more than welcome!!

    Later,

    Maurice

  7. That ruled, must have been some vacation. Sorry to hear about your gear getting swiped. How about more pics from the Sinners party?? [IMG] Jeff Decker is a cool mofo isnt he. I need to get down there and visit him again. His hot rod is bad ass, and his bike well if they dont know by now then well, oh nevermind.. I love his bike put it that way.
So what was Bluebear doing at Jimmy shop. Doesnt he work for Boyd?? Somehow I cannot picture that guy working for a Sinner. Thanks for sharing your vacation with us, you got to do and see more than most of us do and we live in the damn states..

Holy crap. One of the best threads in a looong while. Thanks man.

Cindy Rutherford is rad. I've been down there a few times and chatted with her. Some say shes wacky, but I'd say shes cool as hell. A Character for sure...

Glad to see you enjoyed socal.

Thanks for sharing, sounds like you had a once in a life time trip.. so many cool pics. The skate shop in Torrence blew me away with all those Dog Town boards, I have been wanting to find an old one for years to strap to the roof of my wagon... Sucks about the crackhead that stole you shit.
