Dunno why it took me so long to find the HAMB. I'm retired ten years - originally from NJ. First car was 34 Ford sedan with 24 stud. That was 1956. Then a channeled 34 coupe with 265 in 1957. Then Model-A roadster pickup with 283 from 1960 until 1988. Then built the '37 sedan I still drive (54k miles). Was in Royal Rods club in West Orange NJ from '56 until it disbanded in mid-sixties. Drag raced my coupe at Montgomery NY in '58 where I was also the flagman. I got to flag off Don Garlits on his record run that year. And raced the coupe at Old Bridge Stadium where I ran the timing stand, too. I also worked the Island Dragway (Great Meadows, NJ)timing stand when they first opened and the meets were run by the New Jersey Timing ***ociation. I was an officer of the New Jersey Timing ***ocian in '60 and 61. Don't have any projects going now. Make a few regional events each year and especially like the Billetproof event in FL. Correct philosophy and neat cars.
Great to hear from you frank i also moved to fl from middletown nj after i retired from gm i don't miss the cold but i do miss raceway park
welcome to the HAMB , if you got some old pics stashed we would love to see them , the m***es dig old pics!
OK flh4speed - you asked. At the moment I haver borrowed the original s****books from the New Jersey Timing ***ociation covering hot rod activities from 1953 to about 1961 in New Jersey including drag racing at Linden airport in 1954. Gott get the scanner hooked up and see if I can fit these huge books onto the gl*** plate. Winter project I guess...
