I just got this 66 Caprice four door hardtop. Its in decent enough shape. Has a 396 in it.I kinda wanna take the mill/trans out and put it in my burb. But is it so rare amybe I shouldn't part it out.I thought bout taken the mill/trans out and swappin in a SBC,then sell it. Anyone know the production numbers on it? Its been sitting since '93.Gonna need a bunch of work to get it going.......Shiny
No! its worth more like it is together than parted out. The 427 & 396 models are being collected now. How is the rest of the body?
If it's rare let me know. I know where there is one that has been setting in a grove in S.Dak. for a couple decades. Still all there according to my snoop. A 65 tho. There has been a guy dragging around a very complete but totally weathered 2 door SS 396 Impala. He hasn't had any luck trying to get $2500 out of it.
pull the engine and tranny and sell the roller.. if the body is really nice, then put a sbc in it and sell it as a driver.
You might check with the guys at chevytalk.com its Hard to imagine a 4door as being desirable or collectible
Id really hate to see it parted out unless you had another chevy ready to take its place on the road, but if you dont want just sell it complete, four door or not its still a cool car, and kinda rare with the big block.
Hell, if the price was right, I'd LOVE to have a car like that as a family driver! It'd be cool to roast 'em with the kids in the back and the extra doors. -Brad
If you're going to part it out and it has a tilt/tele column and wheel, I'd want that...let me know. R-
4 doors are not desireable, but 4 door hardtops are. Especially a big block car. It would be a shame to part that out. The trick is advertising it to the RIGHT people. Which obviously isn't here. I will pose the question over at the chevelles.com site and see what they think.
Fuck that car! I think it's worth more in parts than as a unit. I know, I know! I'm definetely biased against 4 doors but they're sooooooooo ............."old man". I had a 66 Crapice that same color with a tan vinyl top, 396, 400 turbo, buckets and console gauges. Got it for $50 and hadda rewire the gauges...small wire fire. I think the front clip would prolly be worth what you could sell the whole car for, leaving you the cool column, 12 bolt rear, motor and tranny etc etc etc...for your own project. .........and if you didn't wanna keep the '66 motor, I'll bet 349,976 guys would line up to buy it for their 66 chevelles.
I'm with Rockey on this one. More doors are not where its at. Part it out, keep what you really really want and let the restorers have the rest. You can probably get 30.00 american just for the fender tags from a restorer.
It's got two too many doors to be "Kool" It's a friggin parts car and promoting it to even idiots as being a "classic" is just watering down the value of the term "classic" and raising the price of what should always be cheap "Parts cars" Cut the fucker in half, TODAY!
I disagree with the part it out crowd. That car is getting to be the "entry level" old car for today's youth. I say find it a good home, but that won't coincide with the most profitable option.
No one in the musclecar crowd gives a rat's ass about original emblems unless they are NOS. You'd have a hell of a time getting $10/pair for those emblems. I've got at least 6 sets lying around. I still contend that a 4 dr hardtop is worth alot more than a standard 4 dr. We sold a 4 dr 66 chevelle in similar shape for $1000 last year. And it was a small block car (with air and tilt) If it had been a '67 chevelle 4 dr hardtop, we would have kept it, slammed it and put some 18" salt flat wheels on it. But we are serious '67 people and that's who you'd have to find for that car.
I'd love to have it because it's weird, and for what it could be. Pull up next to some newer Mustang at a light, then smoke his ass with 2 tons of more-door! I love the "walk quietly, but carry a big stick" idea. Today's Political trivia: who coined that phrase? I wouldn't put THAT engine/trans in a Suburban- you can find other BB's elsewhere. Keep it together and sell it as such. Or fix it up and sell it for some money. It's rare now-a-days to find a real factory BB car. Especially up here, where everyone used them in the 70's as doner cars for their Chevelles and Camaros. My '71 Chevelle had a 396 out of a Caprice...according to the numbers on the block

those are great demo derby cars. run it in one yourself then junk it or pull your parts and sell it for a derby car. After pulling all the sellable parts I hauled one a 4 dr post off for scrap last month. lots of them around this part of the country. One last thing you can spend 10 thousand to restore it and have a 3 thousand dollar car.
my buddys got a 66 impala 4 dr hardtop too, its got a 396 too, but his gots that new fangled air conditioning stuff on it!hes yanken the motor fer his 61 biscayne, i think im gonna buy the body. he drove his home the guys house he bought it from.
I'm not gonna part it out.At the moment. I'm not a big block lover at all. So I don't "need" the mill for my 57 burb I will prolly sell it as a complete unmolested car. I'm gonna change all the fluids before trying to start it. I'll get it running and drivable.Maybe rip the tires off it for a bit then sell it. Django, your right bro.Sell it to someone who really wants it and will do something with it. If you have a serious buyer shoot him my way.I'll make it worth your while ....Shiny
Car looks savable. Try to find a buyer for a high price or a swap for a nice big block, if that's what you really want. My dad's boss has a 8,000mi '68 Caprice coupe with a factory solid-lifter 427, 4spd, 4.56 gears, and radio/heater delete. Vinyl top too.
I disagree about cutting it up. A lot of guys around here have this idea that if it isn't traditional rod or custom fodder, it's worthless and should be destroyed immediately. Funny, these are the same guys who would scream BLOODY MURDER if someone scrapped a rusted out model A body. A little hypocritical if you ask me. There is probably someone out there that would love to have that car in good shape. Like someone who's dad had one when he was a kid or something. Just because their version of "nostalgia" is a little different than ours means nothing. Unless your one of those dudes who has no respect for anyone's passion but your own. And if you are one of those guys, you don't really have the right to bitch when someone else of your same mindset destroys an all original fendered 32 roadster. Get it? I used to run mostly 60's Impalas when I was younger & I have a lot of love for them myself. Pass it along to someone who will appreciate it & make it nice again.
Got it,,,good points to ponder, alright. Then again...........it'd make a great chop-top "shorty" with about 30 inches cut out of it's middle.
Shiny...one mans junk and all that! You know there is some dude out there that will goo himself over that car !! K9....your sick Whats the difference between a demo derby and the "scrap it" plan............ahhh lets not go there! Make it "SHINY" and sell it
Well, if it were me I'd part it out unless the body is PERFECT. If there is any rust at all in it no one would want to restore it cause you'd have more in it than what it's worth when finished. Remember it's just a 4 door. Look in a Hemmings and see what others are asking for 'em. Josh

[/ QUOTE ] I would have to disagree on the derby. The front end on these cars is real soft compared to cars that have the 5 mph bumpers. It doesn't take much of a hit to wrap the radiator around the engine.
