next time you talk to Dennis, will you ask him what he knows about the Model A coupe on Dupont Street that had Casper the Friendly Ghost painted on it?

  7. One thing is for sure, Dennis knows how to build good looking cars.

Both him and his wife Debbie are great people

Thanks - I am blown away with the feedback.

Thanks Frank - less is MORE right? Similar feedback at Hop Up by Morty

    Thanks

    Thanks - stay tuned

    Will do

Thanks - its ashame to part with it

    More coming soon

There will be updates over the next few days as I am going to try and get this car running for an event here - stay tuned and thanks so much for all the cool feedback.

  8. Well I retreived my car from Dad's place last week - I had it in storage there. I have cleared the magazine work out of the way and have made a start on getting this thing running.
Went to our local Model T and A parts place here and scored the gas tank, rad surround and radiator.
Will start to mount the tank and also mocked up the arms and mechanisim for the rod brakes
I wanna get this running real fast!

  9. That is really cool. Love the work on the body substructure and frame. That should be on rigid Model T. Keep at it. Great thread!!

  10. Today I remounted the steering box, mounted the gas tank, sorted out the engine mounts and got the cowl fitting better and fitted the cowl to chassis brackets

There is nothing about your build that is not to like. The way you did the kickup in the rear, the use of U channel instead of box, the rivets, the way the body is reinforced and mounted like Fort Knox. Oh, and the overall design. Very well done and can't wait to see how it all turns out.

Awesome man, to me there's nothin cooler than the early lake's cars, I did this one last winter using all the old ford parts I could find and made the rest, it's a 27 touring front half on a 30 unrestored chassis with 39 front and fear ends, quarter elliptic's front and rear, homeade intake and exhaust, it doesnt really look like it but there's alot of fab work in it , we had at the hamb drags this year, actually ran it, it went 22.51 @ 56mph, didnt think it was to bad for 1930 original engine, keep up the great work.

  13. Busy week ahead
Made a reinforcing plate for below the steering column to prevent that from twisting the chassis when you turn the wheel
Made some gussets for the front cross member
    Started mocking up the exhaust.

Gotta go get some more ARGON and then I will blow the car right down, weld those things in the frame and then drill a couple of holes for the brake rods and then start to assemble things for the final time.

Radiator is getting checked out at the moment.

When the motor gets put back in I will finish the mounts and exhaust etc

  14. wow, just found this. i wundered what you were doing with the T stuff you have. thanks greg for showing more kiwi coolness and good luck with it, yourll be on the road just in time for summer at this rate.

  15. Thanks mate your car looks cool too!

Cool car mate thanks for your comments - we have a four banger class at our nostalgia drags

Thanks mate-been busy on the mag and this and also the 32 and a couple of other projects for others
Cant wait to get this one going!

  16. Tonight I stripped it down to bare frame, finished some welds and made some gussets.

Then got it ready to finish the engine mounts tomorrow. I also want to get the brakes working tomorrow and then make put the body on and make a start on the exhaust

Here's something I've wondered about............why, when building one's own frame, do we add all that diagonal center bracing? Is it overkill? The stock frames we are replicating did not have all that additional center bracing, and they might have been constructed out of less robust material, as well.

I don't have a problem with strength on the safe side. Just wondering, that's all.

  18. As the years went on chassis design progressed
T chassis had no bracing relying on engine and the running board brackets
A chassis had a centre brass and still relied on the engine to hold it together

Stiffer the chassis, less stress on other components and body.

I'm with you, but nowadays we seem to add tons of material, way more than any factory ever did. No room for pedals and other parts. And we're building light rods, not automobiles that will see all kinds of service.

This is not a criticism of the beautiful car in this thread or any other. As I said, it's just something I wonder about.

  20. I hear what you are saying and I thank you for the positive comments on my car.
Too often do we think big is best, but geometry is alot better and allows one to use lighter material like race cars do
I have to admit that I did go overboard with it a bit

  21. Today I got the radiator back from being checked out
Mounted the motor and added boxing plates around rear mounts
    Made brake cross shaft brackets
Then got the call to say that my 1 1/2" to 3" mega phone was ready to pick up.

  22. Its 4.25am NZ time
I have just bolted the body back on the frame for the final time.
All the chassis work is completed
Still need to finish the front wishbone and rod brakes
Next up is to fit the engine and then start the exhaust

Still really really nice. Quick progress, too! Nice.

Have you though about smoothing the engine? Not sure if that would be a good look for this type of car.

Any way you can hide that alternator? Silly nits, don't take them the wrong way.

    Greg,

I'm with you on the T idea..... this one was my parents (that's them and me in the photo) with a V8-60

I plan on recreating it after the 5W and current roadster is done.
