Ebay scam????

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by -, Nov 4, 2004.

  1. I sold an item on Ebay and I got this return message. Is it a scam to get my bank numbers???

Hello Clark, We have a problem with PAYPAL coz our credit card thought it is international in scope, is not registered in US. it is registered in the Philippines and Paypal doesn`t accept cards that are registered outside US.We`ve been using Bidpay for more than 30 items, and we never encounter a problem. Please give me your Account Name, your mailing address and your depository bank and your account no.swift code, and the total amount of shipping charges to IL. and we will send the payment bank to bank ASAP Thanks, take care and God Bless! DENZ

Not sure what to do here.
    Clark

Don't give them your bank account number...no matter what, I am not sure what a account swift number is. I would go to Bidpay and set up an account there and and see what bid pay says a buyer need for info... Good luck.

I don't think it is a good idea to give your checking account number to anyone.

I would tell him that PayPal will draft from his checking or savings and he can make the payment that way.

If not there is always western union.

I've used bidpay before clark and you don't need any bank acount info.

All they need is your Ebay name which they have from the auction and your address. Bidpay will then send you a western union money order to your address via regular mail, sounds fishy.

Do NOT give anyone your account number..DO NOT DO NOT That's all I got to say.

  6. They seem to want to use Western Union Bidpay (www.Bidpay.com) - but they don't need any of that information to use it. Log in there and check it out - it's free for sellers, bidders pay the fees. You get a money order in the mail. So yeah, it smells like a scam. I'd go set up an account there and send them the name on it, tell them that's all they need to send you the money.

I have had a few legitimate buyers ask for account numbers. Some countries apparently do money transfers that way as a matter of course - I just explain to them that there is too much fraud out there to chance an account number and I much prefer getting something sent to me that I deposit into my account. These customers seem to be more from Europe, not the far east -

  7. I just sold parts to a guy in Bulgaria.
    He sent money through Bidpay.
A Western Union Money order showed up in my mail box in a couple of days.
Sniff, sniff.....Smells like Scam spirit to me.

NEVER, EVER give anyone your SS#, bank account #, or credit card #.

If they need to wire transfer you money, just give them the contact info for your bank & tell them to deal with your bank directly. Let the bank decide what info they will release for the transaction.

If they have a problem with that, move on.

  12. Ebay doesn't recommend nor offer protection on anything paid through Bidpay

If I can send by paypal to the Phillippines, why can't someone from the Phillippines send by Paypal to you? I won an auction a couple months ago and it went thru fine. It did take damned near a month to get my stuff,(Slow Boat I guess) but it worked.

I would not do it, but every time you write a check your account # and routing info is on it. Checking account numbers are not secret. Beatnik and rusty are right, you dont need account #'s for Bidpay. Should be just a check that shows in the mail.

  18. I wasn't going to give them my checking account numbers. I thought it was weird they were asking for them.

Larry should I send them that picture you posted of me? That should scare them [IMG]
    Thanks for the input!!

From the looks he might be using a local credit card co, not an international (Visa,AMEX etc) I know I can do the credit card thing on Paypal but as a non US resident can't do any of the banking stuff, FYI here we can do internet transfers to peoples bank a/c so while it might be a scam he might also be ligit but unused to the rigmarole involved in International purchases, use the bidpay thing if he wants toosounds like the easiest and safest way to me.

  21. Forward that email they sent you to-spoof@ebay.com ...........they'll handle it for you.\I recieve paypal payments from all over and that does sound fishy.

Here is another problem I have. A Scandanavian dude overpayed on freight by $50 bucks after we had to ship a radiator to a US addy rather than overseas. I cant get PayPal OR Bidpay to work at the shop since we changed email addys!!!!!!!!!

I am sure this guy thinks I am trying to screw him but has been patient. I will try Western Union tomorrow, I feel like a schmuck!

  24. Tell them you are sorry but cannot do buisiness with them.
